Seekonk Speedway, Miller Brewing Announce Gold Cup Classic Series

Todd Baptista

Seekonk Speedway announced today that Miller Brewing Company, makers of Miller High Life, Miller Genuine Draft, and Miller Lite Beer, has again joined forces with the speedway to present the “Miller High Life Gold Cup Classic Series” in 2007, a trio of 75-lap $2,000 to win Pro Stock features at the 1/3-mile Bay State oval.  “Following the success of last season’s Miller High Life Gold Cup Classic event, we were all eager to expand our partnership and we’re very happy with the new format we’ll be presenting,” assistant manager David Alburn announced.

The 2007 Miller High Life Gold Cup Classic Series will be played out over three separate race dates, beginning with the season opener on Sunday afternoon, May 6.  Subsequent events will be held on Saturday, June 16, and Saturday, August 11.  In addition to accruing A.R.C. championship points, drivers will also accumulate Miller High Life points in the three races.  The driver who earns the most Miller High Life points will be guaranteed a provisional starting spot in the season-ending D. Anthony Venditti Memorial Festival of Racing 100-lapper on Sunday, October 7.  The winner of each 75-lap main will take home $2,000 and the impressive Miller’s Gold Cup trophy.  Swansea, MA’s Todd Annarummo captured the event in 2006.

The speedway also announced that they will be sponsoring a weekly drawing which will award one free tire to a competitor in the second tier Late Model division.  The drawing will be done during the pre-race driver’s meeting.  Eligibility will be determined by the finishing order in the previous week’s feature.  Over the course of the 2007 season, the speedway expects to award over $2,000 in tires to Late Model competitors.

The stars of Seekonk Speedway’s 61st season will be honored Saturday night, January 20, at the track’s annual awards banquet and dance at the Venus de Milo Restaurant, located on Route 6 in nearby Swansea.  Close to 1,000 competitors, crew members, officials, fans, and their families are expected for the gala affair.  Third generation racer David Darling of Rehoboth, MA will be honored as the A.R.C. Pro Stock champion and presented with the custom-designed speedway championship ring.

Pawtucket, RI Late Model veteran Gerry DeGasparre, Jr., Sport Truck ace Mike Cavallaro of Seekonk, Street Stocker Al Clements IV of Oak Bluffs, MA, and Swansea, MA’s Randy Arruda, the Pure Stock champion, will also be acknowledged for their championship-winning seasons.  Zach Tucan, 15, of Taunton, MA and rookie Kyle Tringali, 15, of Plymouth, MA will reign in the Seekonk Youth Racing Association classes.  Rookie of the Year and Most Improved Driver awards will be given in each division, in addition to the traditional top ten in points and feature winners’ hardware.

Tickets for the 61st annual Seekonk Speedway Awards Banquet and Dance are $30 each and can be purchased by contacting the track office directly at (508)-336-9959.  A ****tail hour will precede 7 PM family style dinner and awards presentation.  For more information, visit online at www.seekonkspeedway.com.
