Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
Southern National (NC) Speedway - Combination event
Hickory (NC) Speedway - Combination event
Jennerstown (PA) Speedway - One event
New Hampshire International Speedway - Two events
Martinsville (VA) Speedway - Combination event
Mansfield (OH) Motosports Park - Combination event
Possibly Holland (NY) Speedway, Lake Erie (PA) Speedway and Spencer (NY) Speedway. Riverhead (NY) Raceway is a NO, and looks the same for Waterford (CT) Speedbowl.
What do you think?

No way. If they had even half as many combination races they might as well make it one more tour. I think that there will be maybe a couple southrn tracks, and one in Ohio on the schedule, but not that many down south. Also, i couldnt see Thompson and Stafford having less than a total of 8 events.
The RUMOR well before this season was even half-way over was that in 2007 the Whelen Southern and Whelen Tour would become a single Tour. I also do not see only two events at Thompson and Stafford. Although I do see Thompson pursuing the cheaper to host TVMRS and ROC.
I searched for the original post I made on this subject. Here is is :
This is just totall RUMOR at the time. But a hot topic over at MSS is that Nascar is going to combine the Whelen and Whelen Southern Tour into one for the 2007 season. Forming the Modified East Tour.
My biggest questions with this RUMOR would be why ??? They would gain NOTHING. Unless the purses were seriously increased the Southern drivers are not going to travell North. If they were going to, they would allready be doing it. What this would do is add more venues for the Northern Tour, but also add more expenses which would in turn deplete the car counts.
The idea is to increase car counts from what I have read, but it is not going to happen. If the North and South are running as one, the Southern drivers without the budgets will join the ASA Tour. So what we will end up with is the Northern Tour running more races, but spending a whole lot more money.
Now maybe if NASCAR were serious about making this work, they would get some of their "official products" of NASCAR to help sponsoring the Tour races. You know Domino's, Pizza Hut, Coca-Cola, McDonald's, Powerade, Duracell, AAA Insurance, Top-Flite Golf, Kellog's etc. All those companies so proud to be the official something of NASCAR.
Get each of these glory seeking companies to sponsor one race for a $100,000 dollar purse and you might see some serious car counts. But we all know NASCAR has forgotten where they began, how often do they mention Red Byron the first NASCAR Champion who won in the Modifieds.
NASCAR there is a famous saying in the racing world "If it aint broke... don't fix it". Well the way I see it, nothing is broken leave it alone.
How about getting that pen and signing a TV deal. That is what is really needed, not making guys spend more money.
And if we make a Modified East, can we expect a West Tour as well ???
Just my opinion. -WMT-

I agree with that post. NASCAR claims that it will focus on the WMT and Busch East this year, but i dont know how credible this is. I do believe the Tour will be with the Busch East in Masnfield, but they probably wont have a race with them at most of the other southern tracks. The schedule will come out in about two weeks, and i cant wait so all of the RUMORS can be proved wrong or right.
Thompson wont drop the WMT for TVMRS or RoC. The TVRMS race had 57 caution laps, two red flags and was overall a poor race. The RoC race had low car counts to do a big POINTS PAYING race the following week. If the race paid points, and not just $ there would have been a lot more cars. Earl Paules dominated the race, with Matt Hirshman contending right at the end.
"The Riverhead Raceway on Long Island just had their annual banquet recently. Word from the Island is that there will be no Whelen Modified Tour Series event there in 2007. Chances are there won’t be any at Waterford either. As far as Stafford and Thompson are concerned the only definites so far are the Spring Sizzler and The Fall Final at Stafford and the Ice Breaker and the World Series at Thompson."

AF, knowing how Mr Hoenig is not shy about trying to save $$, WMT event purse 75K.......TVMRS event purse 20K = A savings of 55K per event. I personally don't see it out of the realm of possibility to see more TVMRS events then WMT events in Thompsons future.
I see your point, but Hoenig has been with the WMT since the begining, and hopefully wont lose some of his races. He should be able to pay the purse with no problem at all. There were 13 divisions of cars where people had to pay $75 to get in the pits at the world series alone. I dotn know the exact numbers, but that was a lot of money made. The WMT has high purses for a reason. The quality of the cars, and the quality of the races, not to mention the NASCAR name. I wont rule out seeing other modified series in years to come, but hopefully the WMT will be there too.
