Phil Baril Jr, George “Boe” Green, Joey Scanlon, Ricky Porter and Jim Shorey will share the spotlight Saturday night, when Lee USA Speedway, Lee,NH., crowns it’s champions for the 2006 season.
This years festivities will be once again be held at Joseph’s Faro Gardens, Rte 1, Hampton Falls, NH.
Baril, Haverhill, MA., returned to Lee this season to compete in the then NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series late model division, engaged in a season long battle with former pro stock comrade Wayne Helliwell, but it was Baril taking down the championship following a rules infraction that eliminated Helliwell from the title chase. Baril capped off the season with a win in the Late Model “Nationals 100” last month.
Green, Berwick, ME., another former pro stock racer, captured the street stock title, a career first. Green found victory lane four times in 2006 including the prestigious Lance Davis Memorial race on Labor Day weekend.
Salem, NH’s., Joey Scanlon and Merrimack, NH’s., Eddie Witkum Jr were the attention grabbers as the season wound down with Scanlon winning the small block supermodified title, his first at Lee.
Ricky Porter claimed his first Lee title winning the Roadrunner division championship by the largest margin of any division at Lee.
The Ciotti Racing Products Hobby Stock division championship was won by Jim Shorey.
Special awards will be presented in all divisions to include, most improved driver, rookie of the year, hard luck driver, best team performance, and sportsmanship presentations. The “Mechanic Of The Year Award,” presented by Craftsman, the official tools of NASCAR, will also be presented.
This year’s special guest speaker will be Ernie Saxton, a longtime speedway official, announcer, journalist, and the publisher/editor of Marketing and Motorsports News. Mr. Saxton, the “Voice of Grandview” Speedway in PA. will also be conducting a sponsorship seminar for Lee racers at the nearby Hampton Inn, Seabrook, NH., the morning of the banquet.
Social hour for arriving guests will be 5:30 to 6:30 PM with dinner served a short time after. Following dinner, a special presentation will be made by the production crew of the all new motor sports program
Pit Stop Talk airing on the Fox Sports Network of New England in January. The first episode goes behind the scenes at Lee.
Award ceremonies will then place followed by dancing until 12 midnight.
