Even with the threat of impending bad weather, Thompson Speedway got it's regular Thursday night show completed without a glitch. 

• In their Dodge Weekly Racing Series action this week, Bo Gunning was the Sk Mod Feature winner, with Kerry Malone 2nd, and Bert Marvin 3rd. A side note; Ted Christopher crashed his primary car in practice,  his backup machine in his heat race, and withdrew from competition for the evening.  Eyewitnesses report heavy damage to both machines. Luckily Ted is utilizing his record at Stafford for the regionals this year.
  
• Prostock feature saw the "Mad Dog" George Bessette take the checkers, with Point Leader Dave Berghman 2nd and Jeff Zuidema 3rd.
  
• It was twin Late Model Features, the first a makeup race from June 17th.  Corey Hutchings took the first feature, followed by Ryan Posocco 2nd and Charles Bailey III 3rd.  Corey Hutchings made it two for two, and extended his point lead by winning both features, and followed by Charles Bailey III, who came in second.  Rick Gentes rounded out the top three.
  
• LTD Sportman action saw Glenn Boss, Joe Arena, and Keith Desantis make up the top three respectively.
  
• Point Leader Eric "Bonehead" Bourgeois grabbed another feature win in the Mini Stocks, with Scott Michalski 2nd to Jeff Moffat's 3rd place run.

Seems like it was a great night to pad the points for the "leaders" in their divisions at Thompson, especially since no one was too sure that they would even run with the weather forecast.  Hopefully, SMS will have the same luck and be able to get in their show tomorrow night.  Early indications are that there will be a "break" in the weather to allow the "Boston Louie" Memorial to run at Waterford this coming Saturday night.  The NEMA Midgets to headline, with all other regular Waterford divisions in attendance.

 

 

I attended Stafford Motor Speedway friday night, and saw probably one of the most exciting, bizzare, and down right rough finishes I've seen in quite some time in Late Model feature events.  The race was rocky from the start, with several cautions and then a spectacular barrel roll through the fronstretch grass by the 14 of rick charette, then  three wide into turn 3, the 48 of Quintilliano on the bottom, the 3 of Possoco in the middle, and the 4 of Butler on the outside.  The 4 of Butler was the big loser, as he made hard contact with the turn 3 armco.  Then on the last lap, the 3 of Possoco put the bump and run on the 48 of Quintiliano off of turn 2.  They continued to bump and grind down the backstretch through the grass, at one point they both slid back on the track in turn three.  As they exited turn 4, the 48 seemed to turn right and possoco made hard contact with the wall.  The 48 crossed the line 1st, Possoco limped across 5th.  Possoco exited his car infuriated and had to be restrained!  The 48 team prepared to celebrate in victory lane, but wait, "a call from above", the 48 and 3 cars are placed to the end of the lead lap for rough riding, and the 49 of Joe Rezutek who crossed the line 2nd was declared the winner.  An obviously upset Quintiliano exited victory lane in disgust.  A look at the LM point standings, shows the two (3 and 48)locked in a tie for the top spot.  Phew!  Talk about drama!  TNT's got nothing on this! 

Nascar Dodge Weekly Racing Series action at the Waterford Speedbowl saw Ed Reed Jr., take down the SK Modified win.  2nd was Ron Yuhas Jr., and 3rd Rob Janovic Jr.  In the Late Model feature event, Mark St. Hilaire was the winner, 2nd was point leader Corey Hutchings, and 3rd Allen Coates.  In Sportsman action Roger Perry took home top honors in an event shortened by 4 laps to due to the remnants of "Charley".  The Mini Stocks Phil Evans was the winner, Glenn Colvin was 2nd, and 3rd was Jeff "Soup" Civardi.  The Nema Midgets were on hand and ran their annual Boston Louie Memorial.  Taking home the coveted top prize was Ben Seitz.

Thompson International Speedway's Dodge Weekly Racing Series Results were overshadowed by the tragic accident of Tom Baldwin Sr., Thursday night.  Our thoughts and prayers are still with the family and friends of Tom Baldwin.

Big week/ weekend comin up; stafford weds tour show, thompson thurs 75 lap sk, stafford again fri  twin 40 sk,  waterford regular show sat, and rest of mod tour race sun at thompson. where is everyone goin and not goin?? advance weather forecast Ive seen looks good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gonna be a busy night for stockcar racing fans.  Stafford Motor Speedway is hosting the Featherlite Modifieds tonight, as well as a Dare Stock and Late Model feature.  We will post results as soon as they come in.

The Craftsman Truck Series runs under the lights at Bristol, and is shown live tonight on Speed at 9:00pm.

Today's Hartford Courant reports that the Thompson International Speedway moved the turns one and three lightpoles, and put them outside of the track barriers.  Track Owner/Promoter Don Hoenig reportedly says this was done voluntarily, without any urging from any outside sources.

Thompson, CT - Fireworks capped off an exciting night of NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series action on Thursday night at Thompson International Speedway.  Todd Ceravolo of Gales Ferry, CT beat out an ultra-competitive field of Sunoco Modifieds to earn his fifth feature win of the season.  Scott Sundeen matched the feat winning his fifth in the Limited Sportsman division.  Ryan Posocco of Stafford, CT won his second Late Model feature in a photo finish.  Dave Berghman of Seekonk, MA rebounded from a tough couple of weeks to post his seventh win of the season.  Jason Paquette of Norwich, CT checkered the Mini Stock main event. 



Going into the night Todd Ceravolo of Gales Ferry, CT was tied with Jeff Malave for the point lead in the Sunoco Modified division.  He was also tied for the most wins on the season with Kerry Malone.  At the conclusion of the 30-lapper on Thursday night, Ceravolo was all alone at the top of the point standings as he gained a division-leading fifth win of the season. 



The Sunoco Modified feature was paced with three beautifully prepared antiques racers from the New England Antique Racers.  Richard Savary jumped out to the lead quickly and headed a train that included LaJuenesse, Kenny Voight and a charging Bert Marvin.  On lap six, contact between Christopher and Voight sent the #13 spinning. 



It only took a lap back under green for Marvin to move into the top spot.  Malone followed through with Ceravolo in tow.  The trio ran nose to tail while Malave joined the fray at halfway. 



It was bump and run between the front four but the running order remained Marvin, Malone, Ceravolo and Malave.  On lap 19 Malone tried to make a run to the inside of Marvin but could not make the move.  Ceravolo pushed Malone. 



A spin by Paul “Buddy” Charette on lap 24 set up a restart with six laps remaining.  Marvin got a great start to regain the lead.  Ceravolo followed through and into second.  Berndt was able to get by Malave for fourth.  Contact between Ceravolo and Malone had Ceravolo chasing his racecar up the race track.



Harry Rheaume pounded the outside wall to bring out a caution which set-up a three-lap dash to the checkers.  Marvin got the jump on the restart but did not hold the position for long.  Ceravolo got a run coming out of turn two and took the lead on the backstretch.



It was all Ceravolo at the checkers to post his fifth win of the season.  Marvin came home second followed by Malone.  It was a photo finish for the fourth position with Berndt edging out Malave for the position by inches under the checkers. 



It was a thriller in the Late Model division, as Ryan Posocco of Stafford, CT earned his second win of the season in dramatic fashion.  It was a role reversal for Posocco and Dennis Botticello who, for the second week in a row, spent the majority of the race battling fender-to-fender for the lead.  Last week it was Botticello holding the checkers, this week it was Posocco in for the win. 



The Late Models had a hard time getting going as a pair of cautions flew before the completion of lap one.  A second set of cautions allowed Corey Hutchings to head down pit road to make adjustments to his #36. 



Cliff Gaumond led early before relinquishing the lead to Botticello.  Posocco drove into second but wasn’t happy with the runner-up spot.  Rick Gentes had the best seat in the house in third as Posocco and Botticello diced for the lead.



Neither Botticello nor Posocco could get a decided advantage as the green flag laps clicked off the board.  With the side-by-side racing, Gentes took the opportunity to take his shot at the lead.  Gentes stuck his nose underneath Posocco to make it three-wide for the lead on the backstretch on lap 11.  Botticello emerged with the lead again with Posocco maintaining second over Gentes. Gentes slid back into fourth when the caution flew for debris on lap 17.



The advantage went to Posocco on the restart.  Hutchings took third from Gentes under green.  Botticello got a run on lap 19 and got up beside the leader.  Again the two were even as they made their way around the track.  Coming out of turn four on lap 20, Hutchings thought about making it three-wide but settled back. 



It was a three-car battle for the lead with one lap to go.  On the backstretch, Posocco, Botticello and Hutchings ran within inches.  In turn four Posocco and Botticello were in a dead-heat.  Posocco got a run coming out of the corner and took the win by inches over Botticello at the stripe.  Hutchings settled for third over Gentes and Dave Trudeau. 



Dave Berghman of Seekonk, MA rebounded from two dismal races and returned to his winning ways in the Pro Stock division.  The win on Thursday night was his seventh win of the season.  Joe Lemay took the lead from Jim Banfield on lap two.  His comfortable lead went by the way side when the charging Dave Berghman came on strong.  He was making a hard-charge on the lead on lap 11 when Berghman bobbled coming out of turn four.  He quickly gained his composure to make another run at Lemay on lap 13. 



Berghman got a great run on the backstretch and was the new leader just after the halfway marker.  Over the late stages of the event, Berghman ran out to a sizeable lead leaving the best battle behind Lemay with Jim Banfield, Mike O’Sullivan, Jeff Zuidema, and Norm Wrenn duking it out for third.  



Zuidema made the most headway and ran to a third place finish behind Berghman, and Lemay.  Wrenn charged late to finish fourth and Jim Banfield held on for the fifth position.  It was another dominating win for Berghman, who is dominating in the point standings as well. 



In Limited Sportsman action Scott Sundeen of Douglas, MA posted a division leading fifth feature win of the season on Thursday night.  Early leader Danny Cates led until lap five before getting a serious challenge from Bill Davis.  Cates was up for the challenge but Davis was not done.  David made another charge on the leader at lap 9; however, the caution slowed his progress as fourth-running Kevin Mason lost a tire.  By this time Barnett had moved into the third.  



At the halfway marker, Cates was still in control but with Sundeen now in hot pursuit.  On a restart on lap 12, Sundeen got a great run on Cates.  The two banged fenders getting a little out of shape coming out of turn four, also forcing Barnett to roll off the throttle.  Sundeen gathered it back in and on the next lap was able to motor by Cates for the lead.  Boss was also able to get by Barnett and into third. 



With Sundeen handily out front, Boss and Cates waged an intense battle for the second position over the final two laps.  After a valiant effort, Cates finally relinquished the second position to the defending champ and subsequently third to Barnett. Cates had to settle for fourth.  Keith DeSanctis rounded out the top five. 



In the Mini Stock division the checkers fell for Jason Paquette of Norwich, CT.  The opening lap found Jeff Moffat in trouble from the second position.  The running order shuffled as cars went scattering to avoid the incident.  Back under green, Paquette was able to jump into the lead but he had his hands full with Eric Bourgeois.  Andy Publicover made his presence known at lap five. 



Paquette gained some breathing room while Publicover, Bourgeois, and Randy Jurcik battled inside the top five.  With only a handful of laps remaining Jurcik began picking his way to the front.  He moved by Publicover and into third. He had chased down Bourgeois but ran out of time.  In the end it was Paquette with his second win of the season over Bourgeois, Jurcik, Publicover, and Ron Rixham.

*Apparrently there has been a disqualification of the SK Feature winner this evening.  Still not official, but Rob Janovic has been rumored to have been given the win after Doug Coby was DQ'd for frame height.*

Teddy Christopher and Eddie Flemke Jr. have a controversial history.  It wasn't the first time and probably won't be the last.  I have heard this comment before about Ed.  Do you think that the tour would ever seriously consider taking the mirrors from the drivers like they did to the SK's at Stafford Motor Speedway?

I still haven't decided though, if it helped the SK's at SMS taking their mirrors away.  Any drivers out there have any thoughts regarding the mirror issue?  It certainly wasn't a great idea to take away both the spotter/radios and the mirrors together, as proven by them returning the radios after a one week trial.  Many divisions don't run mirrors, so there's probably pros and cons to both sides. And then there's the guys who are just plain idiots...on lap two...

From reading some other posts on other boards, it appears that Doug Coby is a bit perturbed that he was disqualified in last Saturday night's Sk event and will be fighting it.  Maybe he should talk to some of the other outsiders in previous years who have won features only to be told in tech, "you're outta here". Even some of the SpeedBowl "regulars" who were beginning to infringe on "the champs' point lead, have lost races in tech.  Doug, you're not the first and you won't be the last.  I think it's more of a show of power from a meglomaniac, than it is race management trying to be fair.  Nascar HQ will let you waste your time and money, only to tell you that they will not get involved at this level.  Plead your case, just don't hold your breath.

Waterford Speedbowl Management has already announced that due to the forecast of heavy rain in the New England region, they have canceled tonight's racing action.  Typically during Loudon weekend, tracks seem to cancel their scheduled shows more quickly.  Probably due to the expected "thin" crowds with all the people who attend the "big shows".  Hopefully they'll get some racing in up there in New Hampshire, but it doesn't look too good.

oh yeah..thats great stink up the show with those jerks just like at the T and the bowl.  If they wanted to have four divisions why didn't they just keep the pro-stocks?  whats the problem, shows getting out to early, and youre not selling enough beer?

Hey, to each their own, I happen to like all 5 divisions at the different CT tracks. Personally I think the limiteds on some nights have "carried" the show when the Sks or pro Stocks put on one of their "stinkers" at either Thompson or Waterford. And as far as the shows getting over early at Stafford, the earliest I remember the show getting over was 10:45, so that wasnt an issue.  I miss the prostocks at Stafford too, but they were never on the top of the Arutes list, so it was inevitable that they would be gone.

In Fall Final Saturday action,  Fran Siana won the Dare Stock feature and Larry Barnett was the winner of the debut Limited Sportsman feature. For the top 3 podium finishers in both features, and results from Sunday action, go to official Fall Final thread on the message board. Heard it was another rough one for the SK division at the shoreline oval last night. Mike Gada starting on the pole, and backing up rapidly eventually causing a pile up which swallowed up brother Dennis once again. John Brouwer Jr venting his frustration with a "helmet toss" at the Mike Gada machine, and an equally upset Allen Coates playing some "bumper tag" on the #21. And in a separate incident, Jeff Pearl suffered a flat tire causing him to spin and was collected by Justin Gaydosh. Gaydosh then used several not so nice gestures toward Pearl in front of the grandstand crowd. Hmm.. maybe this young man needs a time out. Whatever the case may be there is two more weeks of racing at the Bowl and the plot is sure to thicken.

Lot of rumor's flying around about Malave getting dq'ed at Stafford Sunday in the Sk race after finishing 3rd. Heard some rumblings in the parking lot about it too. Anybody in tech know the real scoop? SMS site shows him still finishing 3rd. 

The SMS web site now shows an updated 3rd place finisher in sundays SK event.John Sandberg is now credited with 3rd. While no reason was givin on the SMS site, my sources confirmed Malave being disqualified for an illegal flywheel.  

Our first report from "Openwheelracer" from the pits in northern CT, wasn't very promising.  The mini stocks had taken the track for their feature, but at the same time light rain started to fall.  Since the mini's don't create enough heat to keep the track dry, they brought out the jet dryer.  Waiting for more, as soon as word comes in...we'll keep you posted!

Raindate for tonight's show at Thompson 10/01/04 at 5:45pm!

The phone call is in, Thompson succumbed to the rain.  The Mini's ended up running two laps of their scheduled feature, before the rain halted the action one last time.  Management announces that they will reschedule for tomorrow evening.  Some heats were also run, so it will be a fairly short show, and most people will return again for Saturday's PASS feature.
