Thompson SK results 10/2/04

We have obtained the top 2 unofficial finishers from todays 50 lap SK event:

  1. Jeff Malave
  2. Bo Gunning

Eyewitnesses tell us that there was 21 cars for the open style SK show, and 5 out of the 21 were outsiders.

Tech: (in a supposed open style show??)       is still on going and there's a possible shake up in the top 5.  When we recieve more word we'll post it.

Bowl on Sunday

What was up on Sunday with the sign in deal at Waterford? Couldnt make it Sat or Sun. Heard they were considering it a "private show" and there was no cops there. And they were making people sign some sorta waiver. As ugly as things can get there sometimes that wouldnt have been pretty with no coppers if something went down. The whole thing sounds like another "hokey" Terry Eames deal to me. Can anybody that was there shed some light on this?

Waterford results wrapup

Some tid bits from today's Fall Finale at the "BOWL":

Ed Reed Jr after being caught up in a wreck and finishing 17th was still crowned 04 SK champ.

Corey  Hutchings had his 04 Late Model crown wrapped up on Saturday. With only 21 cars in attendance, with a 40 point lead and the worst he could score was 10 points and had the tiebreaker as far as wins with 5 vs 2  over 2nd place point man Mark St Hilaire, and the most points St Hilaire could score being 50.

The Sportsman title went to Keith Rocco, but not after being sent to the rear and coming back to finish 3rd. Other contenders Norm Root, Ed Gertsch were involved in wrecks and saw there chances go away.

Glenn Colvin with a 9th place finish, was crowned Mini Stock champ. His challengers for the title, Tim Jordan finished 4th and Richard Brooks was the feature winner.

For the full finishes of today's feature events click on the link below.

RE: Dodge Weekly Racing Series (including the SK's)

Gonna be really honest.

Usually so hungover on Sunday morning at the World Series, hang around a smoldering pile of Bud 30 pack cartons in a pit of firewood in front of my camper drinking bloody whatever's left.  Then head in to the track about the time the Mods are lining up.  Pray that they run the SK's last, and absolutely make sure that I've used a vacation day for Monday so that I can stay over on Sunday night. Take my time on the way home monday morning, return some cans, stop at the dump station, maybe a trip to Home Depot for some camper Antifreeze, and get that beast ready for another winter until we take her to New Smyrna.

The Mini what and the Sports who?

TIS WORLD SERIES RECAP

Some observations from Sunday at the Thompson World Series:

The SK division always entertaining always controversial. 41 cars started the event it seemed not many laps in the field was chopped down to 20 or so left running. A few of the top runners were eliminated in accidents. The last lap bump and run by Civali on Teddy was a crowd pleaser for sure, thought the after the checker spining of Civali by TC was a bit of a cheap shot but that's my opinion.

The Pro Stocks  put on a good show, some good side by side battles. The "mad dog" George Bessette and Mike O'sullivan put on a rock'um sock'um battle for the lead, but in the end like he did pretty much all year Dave Berghman found his way to the front and victory lane.

Late Model division week in and week out probably one of the most entertaining divisions at TIS, put on a great race with once again Corey Hutchings capping off a dominating season with another win. The # 70 of Gentes and the #15 of Bronczyk found each other on the track once again with the #15 ending up in the turn 4 wall and the #70 being sent to the rear.

The Isma Supermodifieds, if these race cars dont get you excited you need to find something else to do with your time. A great race for the lead was put on by 03 and defending champ Chris Perley, and the veteran great, Mike Ordway with Perley taking the lead in lap traffic late and the eventual win.

The Midgets, Pro Fours, Outlaw Divisions, and the FMS put on equally good racing themselves. as well as the Sportsman, Mini, and All Star Trucks made this years World Series what its always been famous for great racing.

"Thompson Modifieds"

The Thompson Speedway has released the rules for their new division debuting in 2005. The division will be called Thompson Modifieds which is being termed an "affordable" Modified division. For those that are interested or just curious, here is a link to the rules from the TIS website:

 http://thompsonspeedway.com/rules/Thompson%20Modifieds.htm

Now for my opinion on this, could work, could be a flop, only time will ultimately tell. What do I think will decide if this new division sinks or swims? I think funny enough, it won't be the parts and pieces end of things, it will be how many "NAME" drivers they get to drive these things. If the field of drivers consists of mostly "newcomers" or "struggling" SK competitors (now I have nothing against either of these, everybody has to start somewhere, or find their place sometimes) I dont see people "taking" to the division. Now, if it becomes a stepping stone or a chance for Late Model or Sportsman drivers to get open wheel experience, and you see drivers (I'm only mentioning these paticular drivers because either their names have been associated with the division, or I think they would help me get my point across, lol! ) like Rick Gentes, Larry Barnett, perhaps a Charles Bailey or even just say Corey Hutchings, "Boom" instant fan interest. If these drivers have success, and gain an SK ride out of it, then others will follow. Just my opinion. If any of you have an opinion, or an opinion on mine, please post it, we would like to hear it.
