Did "the third" attempt at all?  Rumor has it that that he left the track without making laps, but unknown if this is true.  Enlighten us.  Unbelievable how many cars showed up to run the August race at Riverhead, but historically speaking many Long Island regulars do very well at qualifying here, and finishing for that matter.  I can't personally enjoy a race at Riverhead without Mike Ewanitsko.  His presence is definitely missed.  Just my .02 ...

Some FMS "Gossip" 8/12/04

Since there wasn't any racing due to rain last night, a few tidbits of news came out of the FMS pits:

Rumor has it that driver John Blewett III, and car owner Curt Chase have parted ways.  Neither Blewett nor Chase were in the pits at Stafford yesterday.  MakingLaps.com wishes them both success in their future endeavors.

Billy (Bear) Collechio is said to have tapped SK/Featherlite Modified Series Driver Ronnie Silk, (Godson of Norwalk CT's own Randy Lajoie), to wheel the #14 for the remainder of the FMS season.  Ronnie is young, talented and agressive, and will probably be a good fit in the "Bear Mobile".

John Blewett III 's New Ride?

John Blewett III reportedly has signed a one race deal for the upcoming FMS event at Thompson, driving the Sheba Racing #8 car.  The rumor mill says that this could be more than a one race deal, but we will all just have to wait and see.  Ironically, Raceway Media Magazine's June/July/August issue was just received at my doorstep with Blewett III, in his Chase uniform, on the cover, under the heading The Faces of FMS.  Just shows how quickly things change...

Tom Baldwin

One of the worst things that can ever happen in the sport of racing, an on track accident resulting in death, shrouds our sport in misery.  To the families, fans and friends of a driver, whether you're Dale Earnhardt, or an Enduro driver at Cauyahoga, the pain is unbearable.  These drivers risk their lives every time they strap in, for their love of the sport, and to entertain us, the racefan.

Last night, on Thursday, August 19th, 2004, at Thompson International Speedway, one of these tragedies took place. On lap 10, in the Featherlite Modified Feature, Veteran Modified Tour Driver Tom Baldwin lost his life, doing what he loved to do.  Many eyewitnesses said, "it really didn't look that bad", but than neither did Dale's wreck.  It takes that special driver's side hit, all the factors still a mystery, that kills these men.  While the Connecticut State Troopers are still investigating the accident, we can't really comment on how or why.  But we do know this, none of the drivers that have given their lives to the sport, would ever want any of their competitor's to quit, the fans to stop coming to the track, or their families to stop supporting auto racing.  No Hutchins nor HANS is fool proof, no helmet indestructible.  The one thing that is never going to change, is the spirit and desire of these driven men.

We at MakingLaps.com want send our sincere condolences to the family, friends and fans of Tom Baldwin.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Although we are deeply saddened, we wish to thank each and every driver, for night after night, putting their lives on the line to do what they love to do, and for allowing us to share in their passion.  It's just too bad it took another tragedy to remind us to thank you.

The "THIRD" stormed out of the pit area before qualifying ever took place, after a temper tantrum between himself and the crew, and a helmet 'toss'. It's hoped that someone burped him after he had his 'ba-ba' on the way home. Ridiculous!

I have seen all three Blewett's in action at one time or another, all very talented racers in their own right, but all hotheaded. And I wonder if that has cost John III shots down south, and Jimmy looks on the tour.  Whats others opinions on this?

RE: Featherlite Modified Series

Going to Stafford Wednesday night.  Mostly cause I planned on it, and have a pass.  It definitely will be hard, but I think we all need to get back to business.  Tommy Baldwin Jr was right when he said "my dad would be ****ed if I didn't do my job".  I think that goes for the rest of us as well.  He would want us to race, I think.  Not to bring up bad memories, but Mike Helton batted around the idea of not running Rockingham the week after Dale died.  But eventually they ran, and who won but Steve Park!  The following week was one we'll never forget.  The memory of Chocolate crying as Harvick took the checkered flag in the #29 is one I know no race fan will ever forget.  We all feel awful about what happened, but maybe it'll bring around some needed changes.  Let's support the guys who are obligated to run the tour, even in such a dark hour.  We just will never forget...

Tour News 8/25/04

Sean Caisse resigned from the #21 Art Barry ride effective immediately "to pursue other stockcar racing opportunites".  More than one replacement comes to mind.

We will update tonight's Featherlite Modified Series Race at Stafford Motor Speedway as soon as the results come in.  We join in the sadness everyone involved will feel during the running of tonight's race.  Our thoughts continue to be with the family and friends of Tom Baldwin Sr.

On the pole!

Donna Lia was the fastest today and won the pole for tonight's FMS race.  Nevin George, Tony Hirschman and Ken Barry round out the top four, prior to the redraw.

Update!  Nevin George in the Ralph Solhem #0 redrew the pole, and will lead the field for tonights feature.

The #50 driven by Todd Szegedy ended up winnning tonights Featherlite Modified feature, point leader Tony Hirschman was second.

What made us decide to start up this website, was what we saw as a need for more information on a local race level.  We never wanted to compete with any other site, nor take the place of one.  Mod Series Scene does a great job at sharing info as well as complete results from the tour shows.  That is where we go to get our FMS info and we will continue to support their effort.  We also wanted to stimulate some decent race conversation, exhchange and debate, without the character assasinations of some other sites.  Our mission statement (in a nutshell) is "to bring all the info to one place in a timely fashion, after all we are race fans and want to know what happened".  We give instant results in the chatroom on Friday nights from Stafford, and post the podium finishers from every race that one of our eyewitnesses attend.  Thanks for your support and we welcome your comments and suggestions. Send them to webmaster@makinglaps.com . Remember to feel free to post any results or race news at any time, from any track.

From what i hear the series normally draws a respectable field of cars and puts on some good old fashioned modified racing. With the FMS off  i have a feeling the likes of TC and a few others could attend.....any thoughts... from anyone...?

Hirschman has 3 titles, but the team he is with now is looking for there first. Flemke and his team are both searching for there first. Hopefully it's raced out till the last lap between the two, not one or both getting caught up in somebody else's wreck.

Not really a big fan of either, but I feel like it's about time that Flemke gets one.  Being a legacy and all.  I'm just thrilled that it's down to the wire and there's actually a chase!  Just like the Chase for the Cup, Gotta Love it!
