103 Cars at Beech Ridge for PASS 400 Practice Friday
(Naples, ME – September 22, 2006) For the inaugural PASS 400 Weekend at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Scarborough, ME last September a total of 83 cars came to the practice day. At 7pm tonight, 103 cars had practiced for the 2nd Annual PASS 400 Weekend.
At the conclusion of last night’s Midweek Series show, the haulers started to line up at the pit entrance with the two-car teams of Scott Chubbuck and Tony Ricci and Ben Rowe and Trevor Sanborn at the front. Corey Williams was in line and ready to go, and Mike Rowe and Richie Dearborn rolled in a little before 11pm. At six am this morning the line was well back into the campgrounds, which forced the pit gates to be opened an hour early before the line overflowed onto the local roads and into the morning rush hour traffic.
The PASS super late models were well represented with John Flemming of Halifax, NS, the 2006 Carquest Pro Stock Tour Champion, Kelly Moore, Dave Dion, Brad Leighton, 2004 PASS champion and current point leader Johnny Clark, Stan Meserve, Cassius Clark, Travis Benjamin, Alan Tardif in his newly repaired #8, Alan Wilson, Bill Penfold, Patrick Laperle, Chris Kennison, Bill Jr and Jeremie Whorff, Curt Gerry, Scott Robbins, Jeff Taylor, Scott Mulkern, and a host of others.
A number of the PASS Outlaw Late Models are going to attempt to make the big show including Derek Ramstrom, Chris Staples, Matt Pepin, Gary Norris, Jr, and Jimmy Rosenfield. Several newcomers to the PASS Outlaw Late Models were practicing as well including Dale Verrill of S. Paris, ME in the very pretty #42.
Between the Super Late Models and PASS Outlaw Late Models it looks like over 100 pro stock cars will be racing this weekend.
The Sport Series/Limiteds were well represented as were the Wildcat/Strcitlys. The PASS Modifieds also came out with two new cars joining the fray for the Saturday qualifying starting at noon.
PASS Officials have made one more weight adjustment for the Northern Super Late Model 2006 race season as of 9-12-2006. >> The 10.99 to 1 (engine option #1) & 9.5 to 1 (engine option #3) using the 4bbl carb are allowed 57% maximum left side weight. PASS North event for Autodrome Montmagny in St. Pierre-Montmagny, Quebec that was rained out has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 8th.

Rain halts PASS 400 program, qualifying slated for Friday night, features Saturday
SCARBOROUGH, Maine (Sept. 24, 2006) — Heavy rains accompanied by strong, gusty winds brought a halt to qualifying activities Sunday at the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, as the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) attempted to complete its second annual PASS 400 weekend race program.
Steady rain on Saturday forced PASS officials to postpone all qualifying heats and consolation rounds until Sunday, which got underway promptly at 12:30 p.m. Action continued for approximately two hours until the heavy rains arrived in southern Maine. A strong cold front was expected to pass through the region during mid-afternoon, and unfortunately for race fans and teams, it was right on schedule.
After a great deal of thought and consideration, PASS officials have chosen this Friday evening, Sept. 29, to complete qualifying races and run the 75-lap Wildcat feature and the first of two Modified features. The PASS North Super Late Model 50 lap Last Chance race, all remaining features, including 100 laps for the Sport Series/Limiteds, the second PASS Modified Feature, 100 laps for the Outlaw Late Models, and 300 green-flag laps for the lightning-fast Super Late Model/Pro Stock machines of PASS North will go on Saturday afternoon.
Post-time Friday evening is set for 6 p.m., and Saturday’s program will get underway at 12 noon. Among the winners in Super Late Model qualifying action Sunday were Jeremie Whorff , who checked out in Heat No. 1; Ben Rowe, who passed Bill Whorff Jr. cleanly on the outside to claim Heat No. 2; and Cassius Clark, who held off veteran Mike Rowe to capture Heat No. 3.
Other drivers who have now transferred into the 300 include nine-time Oxford Pro Stock division champion Jeff Taylor, Bill Penfold, former NASCAR champion Dave Dion, 2004 series champion Johnny Clark, Maine racing legend Stan Meserve, Alan Tardiff, Richard Pelton, Donnie Whitten, Scott Mulkern, and Travis Benjamin.
In the Outlaw Late Model division, heat winners were Charlie Colby, Corey Williams, Jimmy Rosenfield, and Dennis Spencer Jr. A record field of cars filled the pit area at Beech Ridge for the Outlaw Late Model gang, making for some aggressive and highly-competitive qualifying action. A handful of drivers planned on pulling double-duty, running both the Outlaw Late Model and Super Late Model divisions.

A Lot of Laps To Run At PASS 400 This Weekend
Naples, ME (September 28, 2006) When the action resumes for weekend #2 of the rain-delayed PASS 400 Weekend at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Scarborough, ME there will be a lot of racing action. Whether it’s Friday night at 6pm or Saturday at a time to be announced is up to Mother Nature. So, check the PASS website at www.proallstarsseries.com often for the latest weather and schedule updates.
The first segment scheduled for Friday evening at 6pm, or Saturday depending on the rain, will be the consolation round with three Wildcat/Strictly consis, two Sport/Series/Limiteds consis, two PASS Outlaw Late Model consis, and two PASS North Series Super Late Model consis. That’s 120 laps of racing action to see who makes the big show. Then it’s the first of two PASS Modified features, followed by the Maine Indoor Karting Wildcat/Strictly 75. Cole Watson of Naples, ME in the #45 will lead the field to the green for the 75 laps with Bruce Webster of Kezar Falls in the #7X on the outside pole. For both of these drivers, the front row is a long way from where they finished last September in the 1st Annual PASS 400 Weekend. Watson finished 31st and Webster finished 34th. However, they better keeps their eyes a couple of rows back as last year’s winner Brian Caswell is lurking in the third row with runner up Skip Tripp right in his tire tracks.
On Saturday, again depending on Mother Nature, after the PASS North Super Late Model Last Chance race, it’s the PASS Outlaw Late Model 100 with Charlie Colby of Newcastle, ME in the #2 and Corey Williams of Boothbay, doing double duty in the Outlaws and Super Late Models in the #47, on the front row, with veterans Jimmy Rosenfield of Middleborough, MA in the #44 and Dennis Spencer of Oxford in the Cole-Man’s Concrete #8X in the second row.
Sally Gerardi of Standish, ME in the White Rock #77 will lead the Sport Series/Limiteds to the green with Tommy Ricker of Mechanic Falls, ME in the 1X on the outside for 100 laps of action. Gerardi and Ricker are looking to improve upon their 22nd - and 25th-place finishes in last years 100-lapper.
Then it’s the big show. The starting line-up for the PASS North Series Super Late Model 300 will be completed after the two concis and the Last Chance race. Heat winners Jeremie Whorff, Ben Rowe, and Cassius Clark are all in the show, but Cassius has to move back to eleventh as the most recent winner. Other qualifiers include Jeff Taylor, Bill Whorff, Jr, Mike Rowe, Billy Penfold, Stan Meserve, Donnie Whitten, Dave Dion, Alan Tardif, Scott Mulkern, Johnny Clark, Bubba Pelton, and Travis Benjamin.
However, some of the top point’s drivers and big names are still not in the field, including Kelly Moore, Brad Leighton, Patrick Laperle, Scott Chubbuck, Richie Dearborn, Alan Wilson, John Flemming, Chris Kennison, Corey Williams, Scott Robbins, and local favorites Bobby Baab, Bub Bilodeau, Trevor Sanborn, Bill Rodgers, David Oliver, Curtis Gerry, and Garry Johnson. The two Super Late Model consis and the Last Chance Race are sure to be barnburners for these teams.

Ben Rowe, Dennis Spencer share top honors at Beech Ridge on PASS 400 Weekend
SCARBOROUGH, Maine - Ben Rowe and Dennis Spencer were the big winners Saturday as the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) finally completed its second annual PASS 400 Weekend program at the beautiful Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Rain had forced cancellation the previous weekend,
But bright sunshine greeted teams, officials, and fans alike on this Autumn afternoon.
Rowe drove to victory in a 300-lap thriller for the PASS North Super Late Models, while Spencer came out on top in the 100-lap feature for the PASS Outlaw Late Models. For Rowe, the three-time and defending PASS North champion, it was almost unbelievable that he had yet to win in 2006 coming into the biggest race of the season. But this time around, everything came together when he needed it most. What's more, Trevor Sanborn, his teammate in the Richard Moody Racing stables, came all the way from 24th on the grid to finish second. It was a fitting end to the day for driver, teammate, and team owner.
Scott Mulkern finished third, while Travis Benjamin and veteran Mike Rowe completed the top five.
"What a fantastic car we had here today," said Rowe. "We've been running well all season, but things just haven't gone our way. This Richard Moody team has been putting great cars under me every week, we just couldn't get any luck. Tonight, everything worked out for us and I couldn't be happier for Rick (car owner Moody) and the whole team. I knew Trevor was coming on fast there at the end, for this team to finish one-two shows what Moody Racing is capable of doing. I'm thrilled to have finally earned a win for these guys."
Rowe took the lead from Jeff Taylor on lap 63 and never looked back. Finishing sixth through 10th (unofficial) in the 300 were Chris Kennison, Johnny Clark, Joey Porciello, Dave Dion, and Richie Dearborn. Eight cautions slowed the proceedings, none for serious incidents.
"This is unbelievable," said Sanborn in Victory Lane. "I have to thank Rick Moody for giving me a chance to drive for a team like this. This car was hooked up, I could put it just about anywhere. The car was awesome on long runs, and this race stayed green for a long time. Maybe if we had a few more laps, we could've had something for Ben. To finish second to him in a race this big is just great, I'm proud of this team and the way I performed."
Mulkern started in the 32nd position, drove his heart out all afternoon and ran with the big guns the entire distance. "I feel very fortunate to be standing here right now," he explained. "We tried a different setup here last week, and I wasn't really happy with it. So we made some changes here today, and got it to where it would handle well. We're learning about the soft springs they use in these cars today, and it's nice to have it all come together on such a big day."
In the Outlaw Late Model race, Spencer took the lead from Corey Williams for the final time on lap 44 and survived three restarts to take top honors. Young Derek Ramstrom of West Boylston, MA was easily the hottest driver in the field, coming all the way from 21st on the grid to claim second at the finish. Early leader Charlie Colby ran among the leaders all afternoon and finished third, while his son Chuck and Joe Decker rounded out the top five. Spencer, a regular in the Late Model division at Oxford Plains Speedway, was elated following one of his best performances of 2006.
"This thing was just perfect the whole distance," said Spencer. "This is a new car, and we've been struggling a little this season getting it dialed in. It was hooked up great today though, and I'm thrilled to be standing here. That was a terrific race for us."
Finishing sixth through 10th in the Outlaw Late Model 100 were Jay Sands, Walt Hammond, Corey Williams, Jimmy Rosenfield, and Tim Turner. Six cautions slowed the proceedings, and 11 cars finished on the lead lap.
Cole Watson, Chris Staples, Richie Morse and Dan McKeage were also feature winners on an absolutely perfect day for racing at the famed 1/3-mile speedplant.
In earlier action, Watson dominated the 75-lap Wildcat division feature. The Naples, ME driver took the point early and never looked back. B. J. Chapman of Bridgton, ME came all the way from 13th on the grid to claim second, while Ben Tinker, the 2006 Strictly Stock champion at Oxford, was third. Only two cautions slowed the pace, the first for a multi-car melee in Turn 3. After a brief delay for cleanup, action resumed and a long, green-flag run ensued. Watson, one of the top weekly racers at Beech Ridge, was the class of the field despite a healthy mix of drivers from other tracks.
Staples made a late-race charge up the outside groove to capture the first of two PASS Modified features of the day. The Brunswick, ME driver ran third behind leaders Richie and Troy Morse for much of the event, and then made his bid for the point. Richie claimed second at the stripe ahead of Troy, while Greg Ellis and Chad Dow completed the top five.
Morse found revenge from his earlier disappointment by winning the second PASS Modified feature. The Brunswick driver held off a hard-charging Rob Herrick of Old Orchard beach, ME to take the win, while Troy Morse finished a solid third.
McKeage closed out a terrific day of short track racing with a victory in the 100-lap Sport Series/Limited feature. Don Colpritt Jr. kept his nose clean all night and finished second, while Chris Smith was third. McKeage, a regular here at Beech Ridge, was thrilled to complete his season in such fine fashion. All in all it was a fitting end to a full day of racing at one of Maine's most historic race tracks.
