JOHNNY WE'RE GONNA MISS YA John Brouwer Jr. announced his “retirement” following last Saturday night’s SK-Modified feature. Brouwer, who could be a “bad boy” on occasion, nevertheless brought a “human” aspect to the Speedbowl that is going to difficult to replace. He won a features and a championship and ran with the best but it’s his wildly colored racers, his passengers (he had a “Chucky” doll along on his final ride), his crazy hats, his often risqué comments that we’ll miss.
Dave Dykes hit it right on the mark: “… rest assured, Johnny Brouwer Jr. always took the time to have fun. It’s not that he wasn’t a talented racer (the stats show that), it’s just that while at the track, he was going to make the most of it."
