Shootout Excitement Coming Soon

From the Waterford (CT) Speedbowl website.

SHOOTOUT Excitement Coming Soon

Waterford Speedbowl’s first annual Labor Day Weekend “Double Down Shootout” on Saturday, Sept. 2 is already gaining momentum.

The unique event offers double features for the Speedbowl’s four NASCAR sanction divisions but with a twist. The SK-Modifieds and Late Models are slated for a pair of 25 lappers while the Mini Stocks and Sportsman will race a couple of 15 lappers.

The second features will line up in reverse order of the cars finishing on the same lap in the first race.

Points will be award in the first race. The cash payout will be based on combined finishes.

“The first feature will be handicapped and points will be awarded,” explains General Manager Bill Roth. “The second feature is going to be a full-fledged, pure-and-simple, old-fashioned shootout.”

Roth said he has received “a ton of positives” about the race. “It’s a fan’s program for sure,” he continued. “It going to be full-out racing.”

What is the payout? When we had one of these in the early '90s for the late models and we basically ran two full length features for the payoff for 1. I was helping Big Mike then and we won one and Farmer Phil won the other one The Farmer earned 1st place money and we earned something like 5th or 6th place money and it was the same as a 25 lap regular payout. Any word if the payouts will be increased for twice the tires & fuel and wear & tear on the rest of the car?

The way I understood how there going to do thing's as far as the payout was, they are going to take your finishes from both races, and make an avg finish, (Ie you finish 5th in both your avg finish would be 5th) and pay you the amount an extra distance race pays for that finish ( Ie 5th place money from a 100 or 50 lapper depending on the division)

There was quite a bit of disscusion on JP.com about other thing's this "twofer" is going to have an effect on such as handicaping for the following week and the point standings. Will you have people parking it after finishing in the back in the first one because they know their avg finish is down the tubes so why risk it? Will you have people "tanking it" in the second feature to get a better handicap for the following week?

I guess as they say, we shall have to see how it all plays out.

I was told that your points for the night would be based on your finish in the first 25 lapper. No points at all in the second 25 lapper. Payoff is based on your average finish for the two races. A fifty lap payoff schedule for the late models, $800 to win and $550 for second. You can only use four tires for the day, unless you have a flat.
