2006 Point Champions To Be Crowned Friday At Lernerville Speedway
ONE TO GO! The Budweiser Point Champions will be crowned, Friday, August 25th. Lernerville Speedway is well known for providing a venue for exciting "Fab Four" competition week after week. But this season has been even more exceptional with continuous thrilling feature ending shoot-outs. The Sprint car title is still up for grabs. All eyes will be focused on Ed Lynch Jr and Kevin Schaeffer, Friday. Only 16 points separate the twosome with Schaeffer in command. Winning a feature gives a driver 30 points and 10 for a heat race. Schaeffer has never won a Lernerville championship while Lynch has earned four, 1989, 2003-2005. Lynch tops the charts in the Sprint Records with 81 victories. It will be Armstrong Cable Zoom Internet Night at the Speedway.
Cranberry Township's Lynn Geisler has claimed the 2006 Friedman's Supermarkets/Bi-Lo Foods Late Model Crown, his fifth for the #1 Cochran crew. The other Lernerville titles were won in1989, '92-'94. The 2006 season was dedicated to celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the partnership between Geisler Racing and sponsor of #1 Cochran Automotive. Geisler recorded 2 wins at the track and has a career 106 victories, which is second to Bob Wearing Sr's 117.
The 2006 Ferrante Motor Cars DIRT Modified title was secured by Revin' Kevin Bolland of New Brighton. This is Bolland's second track championship, the other was in 2002. Bolland has 4 victories at the speedway and also has won the Lernerville/Tri-City Precise Racing Products/Teo Pro Car Modified Challenge.
Butch Lambert is "King" of the Advance Auto Parts Pure Stocks for the second consecutive year. His other title was won in 2002. Lambert has had a remarkable season, winning four features and 11 heat races.
The management of Lernerville Speedway will spearhead a drive for blood for Sandra Winkle (Mother of Tom Winkle) and Rosalie Bolland (Mother of Kevin Bolland), Friday, September 1st. The Central Blood Bank will have its mobile unit at the speedway. You may sign up at the track or by calling the speedway office at 724-353-1511. More details will follow.
The Mid-Atlantic Championship Series Late Models (MACS) will invade the Sarver oval Friday, September 1st, paying $5,000 to the winner. Mike Balzano, Jason Covert, Jim Bernheisel, Jack Pencil, Steve Shaver, Jeremy Miller, Nick Dickson, Devin Friese, D. Chamberlain, and Robbie Blair will be campaigning for the gold. Rob Blair was the winner of the Tri-Star Super-Thunder event, Sunday night, August 20th at the Challenger Raceway. Starting 19th the Titusville driver, methodically advanced to the front of the field to win the $3000 victory over Sammy Stile. Finishing second in the Lernerville points and winning 2 features, Stile is looking for revenge on his home turf. Add the names of Geisler, Gary Lyle, Alex Ferree, Matt Lux, Mike Blose , Ken Schaltenbrand, John Flinner, Bob Wearing Jr, and Tony Burke and you are going to have and "barnburner" of a feature at the Sarver corral.
The 2nd annual Sonia Bullis Memorial Sprint race will share the card with the MACS Series, September 1st. Chad Hill reports that if a sprint car driver leads all the laps, he will earn a possible $5,600 for the 25-lap victory. First place is paying $3,000. Chad is collecting $100 per lap and has five laps left. There will be $100 for the Hard Charger, $100 for the Hard Luck driver and $100 on lap nine in memory of Sonia Bullis.
