LENNY’S LATE MODEL HOTTEST SHOE AWARD ON LINE THURSDAY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                                      TR-082306-2

WATERBURY, VT – Former Thunder Road Late Model Champion, Phil Scott of Middlesex, winner of last Thursday’s ACE Hardware feature, is in line for a $500 bonus from the Lenny’s Hottest Shoe Award program.  Scott’s victory, his second of the season, broke a 13 week stretch of non-repeat winners in the division.  If any of the previous race winners is shut out of Victory Lane, Scott will claim the extra cash.  Should one of the eligible drivers back up a previous win, the pair will share in the award.

Besides Scott, other drivers visiting the Winner’s Circle in a weekly point counting event include Marc Curtis Jr., Trampas Demers, John Donahue, Brent Dragon, Pete Fecteau, Jamie Fisher, Joey Laquerre, Cris Michaud, Dave Pembroke, Cal Poulin, and Eric Williams.

In addition to determining the winner of the “Hottest Shoe” award, Thursday’s Kinney Drugs Trophy Dash will also decide which competitor will wear the 2006 Late Model “King of the Road” crown.  Waterbury Center’s Chad Wheeler leads two-time defending champion, Cris Michaud from Williamstown by 37 points (952-915).  Shelburne’s Dennis Demers is third (905).  While most people will be concentrating on the battle between Wheeler and Michaud, the points are extremely close back through the pack.  Virtually every position in the standings is up for grabs; with a poor performance certain to drop a driver back a position or two.

The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Hottest Shoe Award grew out of the clothier’s weekly “Hot Shoe Award” which rewards drivers when they post their first feature win of the season at Thunder Road.  The Late Models receive $150 for carrying the checkers.  Late Model drivers are awarded half of the bonus ($75) for a repeat victory.

Thunder Road’s NAPA Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stocks are also eligible for a year-end Hottest Shoe Award as well as weekly Hot Shoe bonuses.  Regardless of divisions, each “Hot Shoe” recipient receives a commemorative embroidered hat, as well as his cash bonus during the pre-race ceremonies at the next race event.

“In 2005, we were delighted to award over $5,500 in Lenny’s Hot Shoe weekly and second-ending bonuses,” commented Mark McCarthy, Vice President at Lenny’s Shoe and Apparel.  “With few repeat winners in any of the divisions, we’re on track to exceed that amount.”

“The Lenny’s Hot Shoe program has quickly become a favorite with the competitors,” remarked Darla Hartt, Thunder Road’s Administrative Director.  “Not only for the extra money they earn, but for the commemorative hats they receive – the hats are proudly worn around the pits and beyond and are coveted by those who haven’t received one yet.”

Lenny’s Shoe and Apparel has three locations in Vermont – St Albans, Williston and their new and expanded flagship store in Barre.
