MANSFIELD, Ohio -- Joe Rebman of Mansfield, Ohio, was fatally injured in a lap 26 incident during Hoosier Outlaw Sprint Series competition Friday evening at the Mansfield (OH) MotorsportsSpeedway. Rebman,21, was a veteran of winged pavement sprint car racing with many feature event wins to his credit. His most recent win was July 8, 2006, at the New Paris (IN) Speedway where he dedicated the emotional victory to teammate Don Townsend. Townsend lost his life in USAC competition at Mansfield on July 9, 2005. Mansfield is outfitted with the SAFER barrier system. It is not clear at this time what circumstances surrounded the accident, and a complete investigation will begin immediately.
Rebman drove for the family owned Rebman Truck Service team. The team has competed in HOSS, USCS, WSoA, AVSS and USAC sanctioned events, among others. Please remember the family at this time.
