FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UPCOMING: 8/19, Race of Champions (Pavement) Tour

START TIME: 7:00 PM

Race of Champions Asphalt Series Showdown Set for August 19 at Mahoning Valley Speedway

(Lehighton, PA 8-10-06) Mahoning Valley Speedway will be a hotbed of Modified action come Saturday night, August 19 as the Race of Champions (RoC) Pavement Series will be on hand for a 75-lap feature.

When it comes to RoC races at Mahoning Valley, there’s no question as to the outstanding level of competition that converges on the ultra-fast paved Lehighton ¼-mile.

The 75-lap main will be the fourth race of the 2006 RoC Central Region and is also part of an eight race stretch of both Central and North RoC events that began August 5 at Oswego Speedway and concludes on September 24 at Lancaster Motorsports Park.

That spread of shows includes the granddaddy of all short track races, the 56th running of the prestigious Modified Race of Champions, a 200 lap face-off at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, September 16.

The Mahoning Valley race will begin at 7:00 pm with heats for the RoC Modifieds plus all regular tracks classes which includes the Late Models, Street Stocks, Pro4 Late Models, Factory Stocks and 4-Cylinder Stocks.

Pit gates open at 1:00. Paid practice is from 2:00 to 5:00. Regular practice runs from 5:30 to 6:30 with the first heat at 7:00. Grandstand gates open at 5:00.

In the first RoC Mahoning event held in June, Kory Rabenold was the successful victor and is also the most recent winner of extra distance features at the track when he copped the Hoffman Bros. Speed and Performance 100 on July 29. He took the win over Earl Paules.

Paules, a top gun at both Mahoning Valley as well the RoC, will be gunning for his first Tour win at his home track. He is the leading candidate to win the North Region, currently second in North Region RoC points behind Matt Hirschman but closing fast.

Of course Rabenold, Paules and the other name drivers who compete on the RoC Tour will have to face off against a slew of Mahoning regulars that includes the likes of current point leader Don Wagner, leading feature winner John Bennett, multi-time track champion Rod Snyder, Jr., Kevin Graver, Jr., and Scott Lesher to name but a few on the talent laden roster.

The fans know, the drivers know, when it comes to RoC racing at Mahoning Valley Speedway the action is second to none.

A customary large field of Modified teams is expected to be part of the August 19 program plus add the always exciting support classes and there’s no question to the great night of stock car racing that will take place.

Mahoning Valley Speedway is located on Route 443 just west of Lehighton. For additional information contact the track office at 610-398-4923. On race day you can call the track directly at 570-386-4900. Also log-on to www.mahoningspeedway.com
