Shepherd to run limited sched in 2006 with new partner: #89-Morgan Shepherd and Christian businessman Dana Tomes are teaming up to put Shepherd’s #89 Racing With Jesus Dodge back in Nextel Cup racing. The duo announced the formation of Faith Motorsports, LLC effective August 1, and plan to attempt to qualify for the August 26 race at Bristol, as well as the September 9 race at Richmond, September 17 at Loudon [NH] and October 22 at Martinsville. The team has built and tested its first short and intermediate track car and are planning to run a full schedule in 2007. “We are building this team from the front office to the shop rather than the opposite direction,” Tomes said. “We are getting our administrative and sponsorship efforts in order and then tackling the race operations aspects of the team.” The team’s administrative and sponsorship efforts will be handled from offices in West Virginia, where Tomes lives and operates several business ventures, while race operations will be housed in a 13,000-square-foot shop in Hickory, NC, near Shepherd’s home in Conover, NC. The team’s race operations will be overseen by Shepherd and will operate with a limited shop staff and crew this fall, but plan to add personnel and equipment as sponsorship is generated. Shepherd will drive the car this fall and plans on running the full schedule in 2007. “We attempted Loudon last month and tested at Pulaski, so we think we have a pretty good car to take to Bristol,” Shepherd said. “We will make the needed changes race to race to make sure that we have a quality program in place before the off-season.” The team will keep Shepherd’s original car #89, and will return to his trademark dark green and yellow paint scheme. The team’s new website can be found at racewithfaith.com and morganshepherd.com.(PR)(8-1-2006)
