The following press release is from PASS Racing, Inc.
Matt Lee Again at Unity in PASS Outlaw Late Models
(Naples, ME – June 18, 2006) Matt Lee of Albion, ME led the first and last laps of the Hight Chevrolet PASS Outlaw Late Model Series 100 at Unity Raceway, Unity, ME Sunday afternoon, but the story is what happened in between.
Lee and Tim Turner lead the 23 car field to the green with Lee taking the lead in turn three to lead the first lap. Mike Harnish moved the #22 past Turner on lap four and settled in behind Lee. After a spin off the backstretch by Greg Morse in the #02 on lap 8, Harnish took the lead as he powered past Lee down the backstretch.
After a series of yellows for minor spins slowed the race, Lee took the point again on lap 20 with Turner back up to second as Harnish slipped back. Scott Chubbuck in the Cushman #29X, Paul White of Corinna, ME in the #5W, the winner at the Speedway 95 race, and Derek Ramstrom of W. Boylston, MA in the #35 all settled in at the head of the field.
The action settled down until Jay Sands of Seabrook, NH in the #36 was turned around in turn 4 on lap 44, but the second-place in the point’s runner got going quickly and stayed on the lead lap. On the restart, Paul White moved into second, but his run came to an abrupt end several laps later when he spun off the frontstretch under the flag stand.
At the halfway mark, it was still Lee, with Turner second, Billy Pinkham of Wiscasset in the 5X third, Gary Norris, Jr of W. Gardner quietly up to fourth from his 19th-place starting spot in the #03, and young Ramstrom fifth.
In the meantime, Harnish was making his way back to the front, and after a long green-flag run he was back to second on lap 84 when the #73 of Mark Dodge slid off turn three. On the restart, Turner followed Lee on the inside and took second back from Harnish, with Pinkham, Norris, and Ramstrom next in line.
On lap 93, Harnish slowed on the frontstretch with a fuel pickup problem and slipped backwards, ending a great run for the veteran from Skowhegan.
At the checkers, it was Lee for his second win at Unity in the Outlaw Late Models, which further solidified his lead in the points. Turner was second, Norris third in his best run of the season with new colors in an attempt to change his luck, Ramstrom fourth showing everyone that he’s for real after a second at Canaan Saturday night, Jay Sands back up to fifth after the earlier spin to protect second place in the points behind Lee, Chubbuck, Pinkham, and Harnish holding on for eighth with the fuel pickup problem, Bellows, ninth, and Dodge tenth.
Next up for the PASS Outlaw Late Models is the first race in the Central Division at Canaan Motorsports Complex, Canaan, NH on Sunday July 2nd in the 100 green-flag lap Firecracker Special as part of the big Fireworks Weekend on the awesome asphalt at Canaan. Matt Lee, Jay Sands, Derek Ramstrom, Chris Staples, and a number other Northern Division competitors will be making the trek over the mountains to battle with Donnie Lashua, Walt Hammond, Mark Patten, and all the other Canaan Outlaw Late Model regulars.
