Rookie driver Ryan Moore, 22, who made his debut in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series last weekend at Mansfield Motorsports Speedway for Key Motorsports, has been tapped to replace Chad Chaffin in the team's No. 40 Chevrolet Silverado race truck for at least one more race.

"Ryan accepted our offer to drive for us at Mansfield and Dover, and he will make a decision after the Dover race next week whether he intends to remain with us for additional races after that or move elsewhere", team owner Curtis W. Key, Sr. said.

"Chad [Chaffin] has informed me that he would like to bow out of the trucks for now to dedicate more time and focus on his Nextel Cup Series effort with Front Row Motorsports, and we respect his decision," Key said. "This at least will give Ryan a chance to work with us and to see if this is the next logical step in his development as a driver in NASCAR's top series.

Moore, who was forced to settle for a disappointing 36th place finish at Mansfield when electrical problems derailed his effort after showing signs of brilliance early in the event, is under contract to Dale Earnhardt, Inc. in its Driver Development Program.

However, Moore is free to research out other driving opportunities that do not currently conflict with his obligations to DEI or General Motors, and the Key Motorsports Craftsman Truck Series opportunity represented a perfect one for him at this juncture of his career.

"I want to thank Curtis for giving me the opportunity to drive his team's trucks", Moore said. "Though a young and relatively new race team, Key Motorsports does have some very good equipment and a lot of experience in the form of crew chief Barry Dodson, so I am looking forward to seeing what I can do at this level.

"We'll run a few races for now and will see how it goes before making any long-term commitment."

Moore, the son of former Busch North champion Kelly Moore, was the 2003 rookie of the year in that season.

The Scarborough, Maine native has competed in four NASCAR Busch Series races over the last two seasons, posting a career-best 13th place finish in the 2005 season finale at Homestead while driving a DEI-prepared race car.
