Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
In the early 90's at one of the Race of Champions that was held at the Flemington Speedway, during the running of the companion SK Mod portion of the ROC, water from heavy rains was seeping up out of the track in turn one and the cars were having to straddle it to avoid it every lap. With only maybe a lap or so to go, the first and second place cars came upon a car that had suddenly dropped from contention with a mechanical problem on the bottom going into turn one, and were unable to avoid the "water trap". The leader spun, with the second place car going on to win. Who was the driver that was leading and spun out of contention? Who was the driver that slowed with mechanical problems? And who was the driver that won.???
The driver that spun from contention is a long time SK competitor who achieved his biggest accomplishment in racing to date in 2005.
The driver who was experiencing mechanical trouble was a long time Mod, SK Mod competitor and I believe is retired? and is a legend in Connecticut auto racing circles.
The winner of the race is a succesful local track Upstate New York competitor who has gone on to compete in the (B Mod/ SK Mod) portion of the ROC now run at the Oswego Speedway again.
