The list of registered modified racers continues to grow at the Canaan NH offices of the True Value Modified Racing Series with 45 race teams now signed on to compete in the 2006 season with a host of newcomers and veteran racers making their way on to the roster for the first time anxious to compete on the third year tour.
Westbrook Maine’s Tony Ricci recently purchased the former Bob Polverari modified and has indicated he plans to run as much of the schedule as possible. Ricci is no stranger to the open wheel racers. He was a regular at Claremont in 2002 and won the modified race at the 2004 Oktoberfest weekend at Lee USA Speedway, the first time he sat in the car, a Polverari racer.
Sunoco modified front runner Richard Savary, Canton MA, another second generation driver, has filed his paperwork and secured the familiar # 21 that adorned George Savary’s racers for many seasons.
Ronkonkoma Long Island, N.Y, driver and Riverhead Raceway competitor Ken Vogel Jr. has filed his forms for addition to the roster as has Coram, NY, driver David Roys. Roys is a former crew member for the late Tom Baldwin. He campaigned a former Baldwin racer last season.
New to the tour this season will be the 2005 ISMA super modified “Rookie of the Year” Jonathan McKennedy, Chelmsford Ma. McKennedy will wheel Marco Turcotte’s car renumbered 29 for the new season. Turcotte found his way to victory lane last year in a popular win at Star Speedway with Louie Mechalides at the controls. McKennedy also has a Raceworks chassied car he’ll compete in at New Smyrna Florida next month.
Framingham, MA , racer Joe Doucette comes to the tour this year from a 10 year run with the N.E. Pro 4 Modified division. A 1992 rookie of the year, Doucette says he “looks to learn, get comfortable, and be competitive” with his new venture. Veteran racers returning in 2006 include Monadnock winner Les Hinckley, Windsor Locks CT, in a new Chuck Montville entry. The 1996 Riverside Park champion Dave Berube, Bristol CT, Dwight Jarvis, Ascutney VT and defending champion Kirk Alexander, W. Swanzey, NH.
The 2005 recipient of the “Most Popular Driver Award” Andy Seuss, Hampstead, NH will join newcomers McKennedy and Bobby Grigas, Marshfield, MA at New Smyrna Florida for SpeedWeek.
