Steve Park to return to the Tour

I'm guessing this is only for one race, but I heard it with my own two ears Friday night at Stafford. Steve Park will be in a Whelen Modified Tour car at Stafford's Fall Final at the end of this month. Nothing else is finalized as of yet, but more will follow when someone gets more information.

It will be nice to have him back up here.

I wonder if Steve will be driving Ted's block up car?

I found this info on Jayski's and was kind of shocked. The 1988 Rookie of the year standings were: Kenny Irwin, Kevin Lepage, Jerry Nadeau, Steve Park.  What a terrible bunch of luck these guys would have. Kevin Lepage was the only one that never had a bad wreck with serious injuries, correct?

The rookie class of 1988 really has had some bad luck. Two were involved in some serious crashes and one's crash cost him his life. Kevin Lepage is still racing. I haven't heard of him getting into something serious yet. Thank God.

I borrowed this from Jen P. and I hit the nail on the head about what Steve will drive.

NASCAR STAR STEVE PARK RETURNS HOME
TO COMPETE IN CARQUEST FALL FINAL AT STAFFORD SPEEDWAY

(Stafford Springs, CT)---Homecoming weekends are not restricted to college
campuses. When the Whelen Modified Tour makes its final 2005 Stafford Motor
Speedway appearance for the CARQUEST 150, part of Stafford's CARQUEST Fall
Final weekend September 30th thru October 2nd, one of NASCAR's top stars
will return to the Connecticut half mile. Nextel Cup, Busch and Craftsman
Truck Series star Steve Park will compete for the first time since departing
for NASCAR's top tiers in 1997.
Park's entry was filed by Ted Christopher, who is currently chasing the 2005
Whelen Modified Tour Championship. Park's car will be prepared in
Christopher's Plainville, CT shop and makes the former Long Island ace an
early favorite for a trip to Stafford's victory Lane. He has one career WMT
win at Stafford with three career SK Modified® feature wins, while
Christopher has nearly 100 career wins at the Connecticut half-mile.
"We're very excited about the prospects of Steve Park returning to Stafford
to race," said Stafford CEO/GM Mark Arute. "Steve's Stafford performances
in the modifieds played a big role in Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s decision to sign
Steve to his first professional contract with D.E.I."
Park drove Earnhardt's Busch Series Chevrolets for the 1997 season, posting
three wins and a 3rd in the final championship standings. In 1998, Park
moved to D.E.I.'s Pennzoil Chevrolet on the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, which
he drove from '98 through 2003. During that span he scored 2 NEXTEL cup
wins and saw his career threatened when he was critically injured at
Darlington Raceway.
"Steve showed an incredible level of dedication and perseverance after that
accident," said ABC sportscaster and Stafford President Jack Arute. "Few
guys ever get back into a car after a crash like that. But Steve did."
Park's journey back culminated with his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series win at
the California Speedway this past February, which made him the ONLY driver
ever to win in an SK Modified®, a Tour modified, NCS Truck Series, Busch
Series and NEXTEL Cup.
"Steve has never forgotten his Northeast fans and thanks those fans for
their support," Mark Arute continued. "Steve is genuinely excited about
this opportunity, and he wants to win the Fall Final."
Park will also participate in Stafford's famous CARQUEST Tech-Net Pit Party,
which kicks off Sunday's (Oct. 2nd) action. He will sign autographs and
visit with the fans.
The 33rd annual CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend begins on Friday, September 30
with a practice session for SK Modified®, Late Model, Limited Late Model,
and DARE Stock teams. The practice will run from 2pm to 6pm, and the
grandstand gates will be open to the public at no charge.
The CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend continues on Saturday, October 1st with
spectator gates opening at 10am. Saturday's action will see qualifying for
the WMT cars, heat and consolation races for Stafford's SK Modified®, Late
Model, Limited Late Model, and DARE Stock teams, and feature events for
Stafford's Limited Late Model and DARE Stock divisions.
Sunday, October 2nd will play host to all the feature action. Spectator
gates will open at 10am, with the CARQUEST Tech-Net Pit Party starting at
11am and going to 12 noon. Feature events will start at 1pm, with the SK
Modified® 50-lap feature first on the track. Following the SK Modifieds®
will be the WMT CARQUEST 150, the 40-lap Late Model feature, and the 12-lap
Paradiso-Muska DARE Stock Shoot-Out.
Tickets for the 33rd annual CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend are on sale now at
the Speedway Box Office. Tickets are priced at $35.00 for adult general
admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and
under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Reserved
seating is also available and priced at $38.00 for all ages. All tickets
include admission to both Saturday and Sunday's events. Stafford Motor
Speedway offers free parking with overnight parking available.
