Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
Personally i feel this is the way the race should always be run . Yes it is a strain on drivers , crew , and equipment , but this is OUR "Daytona 500" . I have many memories of classic finshes in this event . The stragedy and drama that plays out over the course of 300 gruelling laps is spectacular .
The next step I would like to see is bringing the starters up to 43 cars and perhaps making the race a combination race with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour .
Also the 50 Lap Non-Qualifiers race should be returned . All in all I commend Thompson Speedway for listening to the fans . This IS what we wanted.

It is not so much a case of weak and strong drivers chris . A strong driver battling an ill handling car will become as tired as a weak driver driving a well handling car . The 300 is an endurance race , challenging crews, drivers and equipment .
For the drivers it is twice as many laps as any other race at Thompson , and even the "strongest" drivers are physicaly exhausted by the finish . I can recal a year where the tempatures were well in the 90's , and watching drivers climb out of their cars and sit on the pit wall for a good 20 to 30 minutes after the race looking as if the were about to pass out .
For pit crews , there are more pit stops to make than any other race on the Tour , more tires to prepare , more spare parts to be drug out to the infield , and more intense preperation of the car .
For the spotters , their is twice the laps to work , and more dealing with lap traffic than usual .
And for equipment , the car is put to it biggest test of the season . Many times a dominant car in the first 200 laps , has fallen out of the race in the final 100 laps .
So yes it may take a "strong" driver to win , but to me anyway it takes a whole lot more than that .
Thanx for responding Chris , not sure who you are rooting for but hope they have a good race.

some drivers get very tired after 200 laps in a hot car its the drivers that can deal with the long distance the others get tired and make mistakes. As for who im cheering for, ken bouchard
you know i was once a Ken Bouchard fan . Back when he drove the yellow 55 . I even had one of his hats and a t-shirt then , man that was a long time ago .
