Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
Winchester, NH: Kirk Alexander claimed his eighth True Value Modified Racing Series victory Saturday night in the Hamshaw Lumber 100 at Monadnock Speedway. Along with Alexander's eight win he has now taken over the points lead from Peter Daniels.
Twenty-six teams attempted to qualify at the high-banked 1/4 mile speedplant for the Hamshaw Lumber 100 in Winchester, NH. Dale Evonsion in the 35 and Jim Boniface in the 71 won their heats claiming the front row for the 100 lap main event. Boniface who seemed to be plagued with bad luck suffered an oil pan leak early on in the night and would not start the feature. A new procedure put into place by True Value Modified Racing Series members allowed the first non-qualified car to become an alternate car who could take to the rear of the field for the feature if a qualified car failed to make the show. Rookie Tom Abele, Jr. of Norwich, CT in the 32 became the first to benefit from the new procedure. With Boniface unable to make the feature Gary Casella in the number 25 started on the outside of Evonsion making up the front row.
Dale Evonsion in the black and yellow number 35 took the green and kept the front spot while Casella slipped back to third after the 48 of Ed Dachenhausen slid into the second spot. On lap 20 Roger Raymond found himself spinning through the infield coming off of turn two. No caution showed as Raymond got his number 62 back under power and returned to the field. The next lap Dachenhausen in the P&C Excavating number 48 took over the lead from Evonsion. Top contenders kept Dachenhausen and Evonsion in their sites as Casella remained in third, Dennis Albro of Putney, VT in the number 9 in fourth and the 72 of Jimmy Kuhn Jr. in the fifth spot.
The first caution of the night came out on lap forty-eight for the 8 of Kirby Monteith spinning in turn four. Andy Seuss in the One Stop Toy Shop number 70 came into turn three with no where to go and made heavy contact with Monteith. Monteith retreated to the pits for repairs and after going several laps down returned to the track. Seuss suffered more extensive damage that ended his night early. A double file restart had Dachenhusen and Evasion on the front row and to no ones surprise Kirk Alexander had made his way from the 22nd starting position to third. Duchenhausen kept the lead on the restart and held on to capture the Black Mountain Painting half way bonus. After leading thirty-two of the completed fifty-three laps Dachenhausen lost the lead to Kirk Alexander in the 43. Alexander charged from his starting position at the back of the field passing twenty-one cars before taking the lead. Dwight Jarvis of Ascutney, VT had the best run of the season as he battled for position and stayed out of trouble working his way to the front after staring ninth. Jarvis would over power Duchenhausen for the second spot on lap sixty-eight and charged ahead to challenge Alexander. Jarvis chance to take the lead from Alexander came on lap seventy when caution would fly for the second time of the night for the 11 of Les Mardanes spinning in turn four. Jarvis gave it all he could on the restart but fell short of taking of the top spot from Alexander. Lap ninety-one would bring two cautions the first for the 29 of Paul Surprenant spinning in turn three and then on the restart for Mardanes spinning for the second time on the backstretch. Single file restart did not benefit Jarvis as Alexander continued to dominate the top spot.
At the end of the Hamshaw Lumber 100 Alexander claimed his eighth victory in 2005 with Dwight Jarvis in second followed by Ed Dachenhausen in third. Dennis Albro in the 9 placed his best finish in fourth and Peter Daniels in the RDS number 76 rounded out the top five.
Alexander claimed his fifth Sunoco Hard Charger award for the 2005 season while Peter Daniels collected the Sherwood Tire 5th place award. Jimmy Kuhn and Bob Polverari collected the NorthEast Race Cars and Parts Awards.
Next week the True Value Modified Racing Series makes their first appearance at Beech Ridge Speedway in Scarborough, ME for the Dixie Choppers 100. For more information on the True Value Modified Racing Series visit their site at www.modifiedracingseries.com
