Waterford LIVE News & Results Thread 7/23/05

What a great nice sunny breezy day for the Waterford Speedbowl to host the premiere New England Busch North division.  Qualifying is over and Oakdale's own Matt Kobyluck as posted fast time and won the pole.  They have yet to redraw.  The top four fastest cars in order were,

  1. Matt Kobyluck
  2. Joey McCarthy
  3. Ryan Moore
  4. Mike Johnson

All the qualifying has run rather smoothly, and only Charled Lewandowski, (who spun during his time trial laps, but apparently was undamaged) has been the only problem so far.

The SK division have 22 cars on hand and will run the very first feature of the evening, and then made to clear out of the pit area to make room for the BGNN "hot pit" area.  Their feature is scheduled to take the green at 6:30pm.

Tentatively the schedule for tonight will be:

The Sk Modified

Sportsmen

Busch North

Late Model

Mini Stock

We will bring you live news and results from the track as they come in.  Keep watching this thread....

They must not have started on time as I just now got the results from the SK feature, one hour after the scheduled start.

Th SK feature ran not unlike most others, with lots of spins and a few hard wrecks.  Frank Mucciaciaro apparently was one of those cars that went in a ton, although he was unhurt.  Shawn Monahan have eyewitnesses saying that he spun Ronnie Yuhas, although no penalties were assessed to either, but Yuhas ended up with a 14th place finish. Below is the complete unofficial SK results from tonight's feature.

Full SK Finish:

  1. Jeff Pearl

  2. Ronnie Silk

  3. Rob Janovic

  4. Dennis Gada

  5. Chris Pastreyak

  6. Tom Fox

  7. Rob Summers

  8. Shawn Monahan

  9. Diego Monahan

  10. Ernie Bertran

  11. Mike Finkeldey

  12. John Bergenti

  13. Kurt Lenihan

  14. Ronnie Yuhas

  15. Jay Miller

  16. Mark Pane

  17. Matt Adanti

  18. Frank Mucciaciaro

  19. Keith Comisky

  20. Russell Lajoie

  21. Dennis Charette

The Sportsmen feature is underway...

At lap 100, Matt Kobyluck is still the leader with Ryan Moore 2nd, Joey McCarthy 3rd, and Andy Santerre (who is running like gangabusters apearring to be headed straight for Kobyluck), and Mike Olsen 5th.  Only 50 to go...

The local boy wins...

Busch North Top Four unofficial Results:

  1. Matt Kobyluck

  2. Bryon Chew

  3. Andy Santerre

  4. Mike Olsen

Ryan Moore who had been running in the top five all night apparently missed a shift in the closing laps during a restart and was relegated back in the field.  Kudos to a great run by Andy Santerre who came back from 17th in the closing laps to finish 3rd.

Late Model results shortly!

Did Kobyluck lead every lap in the event? It sounded like so.

pretty much Mandy...OWR says that he just went around in circles all night.  thats what it sounds like to me too.  But Andy was the one that raced tonight.  the crowd was going nuts watching Santerre, but with the Mohegan Sun sponsorship and the home town boy winning the Speedbowl, they were crazed at the checker.

Late Model Top Four Finshers:

  1. Dennis Botticello
  2. Bruce Thomas Jr
  3. Allen Coates
  4. Carl Ericsson

Only the Mini Stocks are left, see you all in a moment...

The checker has dropped on tonight's racing at the Waterford Speedbowl.

The Mini Stock Top Four Finishers:

  1. Joe Godbout Jr.

  2. Nate Appell

  3. Bill Leonard

  4. Chuck Rogers

With the point lead in this division tied up between Danny Fields and Richard Brooks, this division is getting exciting.  Richard Brooks finished 15th tonight, and depending on where Danny Fields ended up we will have a sole leader.  Can't wait to find out which one.

Until next week, we will save you a seat in the stands....

We just heard that Jerry Marquis won the WMT event at Beech Ridge!  Congrats Jerry!

I thought that the Busch North people were trying to stop that (pole sitter leading every lap) from happening again. Wow...was I wrong.

Well the Busch North race was better this year I think. Kobyluck led every lap because his car was hooked up no one could stop him. killer Doughnuts by Kobyluck he realy lit em up at the flag stand and in turn 1. Ron Yuhas did get dumped pretty good. I saw it from a little past start finish line. Ron had just cleared Shawn on the ouside and then there was some contact. Looked like Shawn just drove into Ron and Ron got way sideways and couldnt hang on. There were no punishments cause they said the 11 ran into Shawn and thats why Shawn ran into Ron. That didnt apear to happen though. I was Surprised they let Dennis Gada have his spot the last 3 laps or so his power stearing fluid apeared to be coming out and it was going everwhere.

hey guys - Danny got us this week, finishing 4 spots ahead of Rich in the mini's.  Wasn't a good week for either of us really...  I agree though, it's shaping up to be quite a points race... but you only need to be the leader after one race - the last one.

Sorry Pat, you missed the call on that one with Yuhas and Monahan.  Shawn had the pass made on your boy and  Ron crowded down on him.  Shawn backed out to avoid a problem but the 11 of Summers drove thru the rear of the 31 and pushed him into the 6.  All the Officials saw it that way and said so after the race thats why Shawn was not penalized.  I am really tired of hearing everyone including the webmaster/ administrator of this sight blame the 31 of Monahan week after week.  He(Shawn) is one heck of a race car driver especially in light of the fact that he is only in his first year and a half of running a modified.  He and his Brother have a fantastic future in front of them which will not include running against regular Bowl fixtures for much longer.  Onward and upward for the 31 and 81!

The 6 was hung on the outside. He was getting frieght trained by the cars on the bottom and was going to do whatever it took as Monahan and Summers where in line on the bottom to get the spot.

I'm unsure how the 6 just cleared the 31 when the 31 was actually passing HIM!!! The 31 started that green flag run behind the 6.

Looked like Ronny was looking for a huge break that wasn't going to happen with two laps to go. I'm unsure how Shawn just ran into him, Ronny just kept turning left pinching Shawn down when he had the nose well in there. Ronny KNEW he was screwed and his only chance was to try to screw someone else over with that move. Didn't work though.

It's become common to use and abuse Shawn because no matter what everyone points the finger at him. People racing him think he should just give into anything anyone wants to do to him, and they get surprised.

Anon, you are obviously a supporter of the MFR team, as also as obvious that Pat 6 is a supporter of the #6 team. You both have your right to your opinions on what happen between the the two on track thats fine, that is what a forum is all about a chance to voice your opinion, whether other people agree with what you have to say or not. And so far you both have cleanly and intelligently done so but, the one thing that I take exception to is, Anon saying we here at the site are on the bash Shawn Monahan bandwagon. Not to toot are own horn but, I believe that this forum is one of the most unbiased out there. I personally work on cars at Waterford and Stafford, so I try to generally keep my 2 cent$ to myself. As long as posters, members, etc voice their opinion in a fair and civil way as said above, thats what it's all about. But nowhere can I ever recall anyone involved with the site, ( ie staff) singling out any one specific driver for bashing.

Dear administrator,

Please reread your account of the Pepsi three hundred incident with Shawn and Silk were you state that "Shawn didn't slow down.....and wrecked himself".  In light of all the video tape that was around on other websites that clearly showed your statement to be false, I consider you to be "bashing" Shawn to release a statement like that.  I am the owner of the MFR Team, a former driver and car owner for many years.  For their level of experience,(Diego, 10 races in a mod, Shawn, 38 starts as of Saturday) my drivers have done a great job and I am very proud of their results and the way they have conducted themselves on and off the track. I will not accept innaccurate reporting which is what you do when you are reporting results.  If you want to state your opinion of what happened in a particular incident, thats fine but I think we should be very careful in reporting fact vs. stating an opinion.  I have issues with other elements of the media on this issue as well, particularly Jason Christley of The Day.  I have been silent all year on the reporting of results but I will not be any longer.  Let's all get our Facts correct first and then let our individual opinions be our individual opinions.   Thanks, John Mahoney

I never meant to bash Shawn. I agree Shawn is one of the best drivers out there. I have whatched Shawn drive out there for years. I have nothing against Shawn he is a very good person. I was stating my opion from what I saw from the bleachures following Ron. Starting from the restart Ron was on the outside and kinda got held up by the 51. Then Ron started to fall backwards on the outside. Coming into turn one a few laps later Shawn was under Ron then by the time they reached the end of the backstrech Shawn didn't have any car under Ron(what I meant when I said Ron had just cleared Shawn on the outside). So Ron took his probably only shot of getting down low. So Ron moved down as soon as he got pretty close to gettin all the way down I saw Shawn get into Ron and Ron spun and that was that. That is what I saw happen. I heard over the radio that the 11 drove into the 31 what made Shawn get into Ron. The whole Pepsi 300 incdent was not even Shawns fault. I didnt try made make it seem like his fault either. It was Clearly the contact from when the 1 turned down something broke I guess. Maybe thats why Shawn slid up then track. I just assumed that Shawn would have steped on the brakes as hard as he could when he saw the cars in the middle of the track. Frankley i dont even think that opening nite pile up was entirely Shawns fault either. I do realize that Ronnie is not perfect on the track and nethier is anybody else. This was just a wreck on a race track which is perfrectly normal in a race. When I said "Ron Yuhas did get dumped pretty good"   I was just comfirming a statement in a earlyer post. I admit I made it sound pretty dramatic, when I dont think to many other people found it to be. I was kinda shocked and upset about the situation because my driver ended up spinning and I think Honestly anybody would be upset if there driver spun or got spun especaily with around two laps to go. So to anybody who found my post to be bashing, blaming or acusing Shawn of doing something bad I opollogize. I look forward to seeing Shawn and Diego in Victory lane this season.

RE: Waterford LIVE News & Results Thread 7/23/05

Once again, it is all about opinions in yours Mr Mahoney you saw that comment in that paticular post as a bash, we didn't see it as one. We don't really consider ourselves as "media" just a bunch raceaholics trying to get the results from our local racing scene out to people that can't make it to the track. Somtimes they are not dead on, somtimes they might have some "opinion" sprinkled in, but in the end it's all about racing, the sport we all love. Like I said before we try hard to remain unbiased, and as you said from what has been said and printed about your team by other sites and media sources , I would like to think we over here have been more than fair towards your team.

Thanks Pat and Openwheelracer for your replies, thoughts, and support.  I may be at this point in the Season a little over sensitive to the written word about Shawn because I do think as I mentioned previously that he has been Villified by the written press and unfortunately by many drivers on pit road. (Pat, not the 6, Ronny and Ron Sr. have been great.  I love racing with those guys and hope I can convince them not to retire after this year!)    On the flip side,  Ron Silks comment printed in the Day that Shawn didn't deserve to have a regular drivers license was crap.  That coupled with Christley's remark that Shawn "slammed" into Silk and his tough coverage of Shawn after opening night has put me on the offensive with the media.  I am sorry if I vented unfairly on you two.  I Love this sport and am glad to speak to others who think the same.  Best Regards, John
