Versus Broadcast Schedule Finalized

From Shawn Courchesne:

Breaking News: Whelen Modified Tour Versus Broadcast Schedule Finalized

A source close to the Whelen Modified Tour confirmed to The Courant Tuesday that NASCAR and the Versus network have finalized a schedule for the broadcast of five Whelen Modified Tour events on the 2010 schedule and an additional four events on the Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

Whelen Modified Tour.jpgNASCAR spokesman Jason Christley could not comment on the situation. NASCAR is expected to announce the details of the expected schedule with Versus on Wednesday.

Versus will package each event it covers into a one-hour broadcast which will be aired at 7 p.m. the Wednesday following each of the races.

The Versus Modified television package will kick off Aug. 4 with a broadcast of the July 31 Whelen Modified Tour event from Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway.

On the Whelen Modified Tour side Versus will also broadcast the Aug. 6 Town Fair Tire 150 from Stafford Motor Speedway, the Aug. 12 Budweiser 150 from Thompson International Speedway, the Oct. 3 CarQuest Fall Final from Stafford and the Oct. 17 World Series of Speedway Racing Modified Tour season finale at Thompson.

The Versus package is also expected to include Whelen Southern Modified Tour broadcasts from Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. (Aug. 7), Caraway Speedway in Sophia, N.C. (Aug. 28), Langley Speedway in Hampton, Va. (Sept. 4) and Tri-County Speedway in Hudson, N.C. (Sept. 25).

All the Versus events are expected to be broadcast in high definition.

It means that 10 of the 14 Whelen Modified Tour events scheduled for 2010 will be nationally broadcast in some form. NASCAR announced last month that five Whelen Modified Tour events would be broadcast on SPEED.

SPEED will broadcast Whelen Modified Tour events from Martinsville Speedway (June 6), New Hampshire Motor Speedway (June 26), Lime Rock Park (July 3), Bristol Motor Speedway (Aug. 18) and New Hampshire Motor Speedway (Sept. 18).

Air dates for all events have not been finalized. The Lime Rock event will air on July 22. The race at Bristol Motor Speedway (a combination event with the Whelen Southern Modified Tour) and the second event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway will have same day delayed coverage. The race from Bristol will be rebroadcast on Aug. 26. The second New Hampshire event will be rebroadcast on Oct. 14.

In addition SPEED will offer broadcast coverage of the Whelen Southern Modified Tour event which was run last weekend at South Boston (Va.) Speedway (air date April 29) and the event at Charlotte Motor Speedway (Oct. 14, same day delayed coverage).
