Burt Myers Looking To Add Waterford SK Race To Northern Swing

From Shawn Courchesne and The Hartford Courant:

Burt Myers Looking To Add Waterford Speedbowl SK Modified Event To Northern Swing Schedule

WATERFORD - The History Channel reality show Madhouse has helped to open the eyes of the nation to the wild racing action at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Burt Myers VL NS 09 Son.jpgAs far as Connecticut short tracks go, most would agree the racing action at the Waterford Speedbowl comes closest to matching the Madhouse craziness of Bowman Gray.

Next Saturday it could be one of the focus stars of Madhouse testing the waters in the Whelen All-American Series SK Modified division at Waterford.

Burt Myers of Walnut Cove, N.C. confirmed Saturday that he is looking at the possibility of running the 35-lap SK Modified feature at Waterford next week.

"I'm definitely up for it," Myers said by phone Saturday evening. "Anywhere new I can get the chance to race I'll jump at the chance."

Myers confirmed last month that he would attempt to make the Whelen Modified Tour season opening event at Thompson International Speedway on April 11 if he could get through Saturday's Whelen Southern Modified Tour event at South Boston (Va.) Speedway unscathed.

Myers finished eighth in the South Boston 150 and said his plans to come up north for the weekend remain intact.

"Come hell or high water I'll be there," Myers said. "After the day I had today I'm pretty discouraged, but I'm excited to come up there. We'll start thrashing on the car Monday to get it ready. I've been talking to a few guys that have run up there getting myself educated about the place. We don't run any tracks like that down here."

The Whelen Modified Tour is scheduled to qualify at Thompson on Saturday afternoon, giving Myers plenty of time to get to Waterford for their second Saturday night show of the season.

It's unclear at this time what team Myers would drive for at Waterford.

"We're talking to a couple people, we're pretty certain we'll have a car for him," Waterford Speedbowl owner Terry Eames said. "We still have a couple phone calls to be made but we feel like it's worthwhile to do it."

Done Deal: Madhouse Star Burt Myers To Compete In SK Modified Event Next Week At The Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD - The car has been found and Madhouse star Burt Myers is ready to make his debut at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Burt Myers VL NS 09.jpgMyers, one of the focus personalities on the History Channel show Madhouse, told track management Saturday night that he'll be at the Speedbowl next Saturday to race in that evening's 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature.

Myers will race in the backup car of Waterford Speedbowl SK Modified division regular Jeffrey Paul.

"Sounds like a good car, sounds like a good time, I'm ready," Myers said by phone.

"I'm a racecar driver and I love to race. If this show is getting me more opportunities to be able to race different cars at different tracks, that's great. I'm really excited about it."

Myers, of Walnut Cove, N.C., will also attempt to qualify for the Whelen Modified Tour season opening Icebreaker 150 at Thompson International Speedway, which is scheduled for Sunday April 11 at Thompson. The Whelen Modified Tour will qualify on Saturday afternoon next week at Thompson.

Myers, a regular in the Modified division at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. and a full-timer on the Whelen Southern Modified Tour, finished eighth in the Southern Modified Tour feature Saturday at South Boston (Va.) Speedway.

"I didn't have a great day at South Boston so I'm hoping to come up there and redeem myself north of the Mason Dixon line," Myers said.
