Seekonk Speedway, Viveiros Insurance Announce $10,000 To Win Modified Madness
Todd Baptista
Seekonk Speedway and Viveiros Insurance announced this week that the Southeastern Massachusetts-based full service insurance agency has signed on to sponsor two major open wheel events coming to the NASCAR-sanctioned 1/3-mile oval this month. Topping the bill is a special $10,000 to win Modified Madness 100 which will take place as part of the track’s Open Wheel Wednesday program on the evening of July 20.
“Time and time again, Joe Viveiros and Viveiros Insurance have demonstrated their support of short track racing,” stated speedway General Manager Art Foulkes. “We’re thrilled to have them on board as title sponsor for our biggest Modified shows of the season.”
Sanctioned by the True Value Modified Racing Series, the July 20 race is a non-points event for the New England-based series. Qualifying heats and a consolation round will determine the starting lineup for the 100-green flag lap affair. SK and tour-type Modifieds from throughout New England are expected to trek to Seekonk to vie for the $10,000 first place paycheck. “Modified Madness is one of the best things that could happen for the Modifieds,” series representative Jack Bateman remarked. “There hasn't been a race and payout like this for many years. We hope a large car count turns out.” The total purse for the event tops out at a whopping $31,000. Competitors that qualify for the 24-car field are guaranteed at least $530 in purse money.
The Northeastern Midget Association, USAC Ford Focus Series, Southern New England “Pro Four” Modifieds, and the Sugar Hill Modifieds are also on the Open Wheel Wednesday card, scheduled to begin at 7 PM. Grandstand admission is $20 for adults and $10 for juniors age 13 to 15. Children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. Pit admission is $30.
A charter bus service has been arranged to bring fans from New Hampshire to Seekonk on race day. With stops planned at Canaan, Enfield, Lebanon’s Exit 16, the New London Park and Ride, Concord, and Manchester, the price of a round trip bus ticket is $40. For more information or to reserve a seat, please e-mail them at modifiedracingseries@adelphia.net.
All cars entering the Viveiros Insurance Modified Madness 100 must conform to True Value Modified Racing Series or NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour rules, with SKs welcome under these rules as well. Hoosier Racing tires will be utilized, with 20s on the left side and 30s on the right. A tire rule will be announced on the day of the race, and Hoosier will be present to service all competitors. Qualifying heats will be determined by the luck of the draw, and the feature lineup will be a straight up start from heat and consolation race finishes.
Open wheel excitement continues at Seekonk on Saturday night, July 30, with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 150 Presented by Viveiros Insurance. The annual appearance of the touring NASCAR Modified division is expected to draw fans and competitors from as far away as Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. Tickets for the show, which will also feature the track’s NASCAR Dodge Weekly Series Pro Stock, Late Model, Sport Truck, and Street Stock divisions as well as the Seekonk Youth Racing Association, are priced at $30 for adults and $15 for juniors 13 to 15 years old. Children 12 and under are free, with pit admission tickets priced at $40.
