Pit Stall Selections

I don't understand how they set these. J Gordon was 10th overall in speed on pole qualifying and then finished 11th in the 150 but gets a very good choice of the first stall entering the pits. The #5 & #88 get good spots because pole and outside pole, makes sense. The #48 (6th speed) & #9 (28th speed) each won a 150 makes sense.  The remaining good stall went to the #18 (9th speed) who finished 3rd in 1st 150, but the #29 finished 2nd.  If it was by pole (#5), outside pole (#88) and then 150 winners (#48 & #9) and then last years points well, the #24 was 3rd but the #18 was 14th so that doesn't make sense either. Must be the spots with an opening on one side or the other may not be the first choice of some teams.
