WATERBURY, VT -- The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) announced Tuesday, at press conference in Burlington, VT, a month long "ACTion Super Series" comprised of three Late Model stock car events each paying $10,000 to win. The races will be contested at two of the toughest short tracks in the region - Barre, Vermont's Thunder Road International Speedbowl, a quarter-mile high banked paved oval and the one-third mile Lee USA Speedway oval in Lee, NH. "The 2005 race season marks ACT's 20th year of serving northeast short tracks and fans with exciting Late Model stock car events and we're hereby declaring that September is Late Model month," stated Tom Curley, ACT president. "We wanted to celebrate this milestone with something really special, " the 2004 Racing Promoter of the Year as voted on by the 1,000 member Auto Racing Promoters trade group continued. "What better way is there to celebrate than to have three racing birthday celebrations and not just one?" The ACTion Super Series will kick off at Thunder Road, the "Nation's Site of Excitement" on Saturday/Sunday, September 3-4 with the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic. Some 60 cars from across every New England state plus New York as well as Ontario and Quebec are expected to converge on the "Granite Capital of the World" for the revival of this historic race, the first of three ACTion Super Series races to award $10,000 to the winner.. The second event, the REMAX Alliance Nationals 150 will be at New Hampshire's Lee USA, Sunday, September 25. The Granite State event, in its second year, is actually the precursor event for the Action Super Series concept. The Nationals 150 made its own statement, debuting in 2004 as the largest paying stand-alone late model race at $10,000 to win. Seventy-six competitors jammed the Lee USA pit area, including Canadian D.J. Kennington who drove all night from a race in western PA to attempt to qualify. For the Ontario driver it was well worth the effort was he captured the $10,000 top prize. The ACTion Super Series will conclude at Thunder Road with the 42nd running of the New England Dodge Dealers Milk Bowl on Saturday and Sunday, October 1-2. Due to the Milk Bowl's format (time trials, a pair of 50 lap qualifiers and a Last Chance race are used to determine the starting grid of first of three 50-lap segments, with the combined finishes of the three segments determine the winner), it is considered one of the toughest short stock car races in the country. But it's also due to that same format - an any man's race because consistent finishes in the three segments - can lead to an overall victory. Case in point, in 14 of the previous New England Dodge Dealers Milk Bowls, the event winner never won a segment, including the last four years. It will be the first time the Milk Bowl has guaranteed a $10,000 payday for the winner.
