LEE RACE REPORT

The True Value Modified Series ran The Storace Construction and Remodeling 100 at Lee Friday.

Here are a few observations from the night .

1. Sean Bodreau made what many would call a "stupid" move during the Last Chance race . Bodreau was spun from a qualifying position , apparently by Dale Evonsion . In retaliation Bodreau attempted to wreck Evonsion after the checkers , but missed and slammed the wall in turn one severely damaging his car .

2. Kirk Alexander showed the crowd why he is the defending champion , and winner of three in a row this season . Sent to the rear of the field after a tangle with Jim Bonniface , Alexander charged his way through the field on the outside to take his third straight win .

3. Former Whelen Modified Tour driver Jimmy Kuhn ran a great race placing second . Kuhn made a few bids for the lead but came up just a bit short .

4. Early race leader Wayne Helliwell Jr. had to park his car with rear end problems .

Preparing to run, Kirby Monteith " Mountain Man" at Lee Speeway gathers his thoughts..

Thanks to Storace Constuction, the TVMRS, Lee Speedway, the fans, and all the competitors for a great race!

Alexander Comes From the Back to Make it Three in a Row

Lee, NH:  The True Value Modified Racing Series made their first 2005 appearance at Lee USA Speedway this past Friday night for the 100 lap feature sponsored by Storace Construction & Remodeling.  Twenty-eight teams filled the infield at the 3/8 mile high banked oval track attempting to qualify for the starting grid of twenty-two cars.  Along with the bleachers full of race fans twenty-five kids were in attendance from the NH Make a Wish Foundation.  True Value Modified Racing Series  #70 Andy Seuss team manager Bobbi Seuss organized this event in conjunction with The One Stop Toy Shop, Lee USA Speedway and the True Value Modified Racing Series.     Drivers from the True Value Modified Racing Series visited and signed autographs for the kids through out the night.  Fun was had by all.

At the beginning of the night it was time to take care of business as these twenty-eight teams battled in three qualifiers and a final consi to make the field.  Qualifier number one showed an impressive run by rookie Luke Royea in the number 2 from New Hampton, NH by clinching the pole position for the feature.  Royea who had not yet qualified for a 2005 event showed quick improvement since the first three races of the season.  This rookie has potential and is one to watch as the season matures.  Wayne Helliwell Jr. and Jim Boniface would lock down the second and third starting spot for the feature after winning their qualifiers as well.

Controversy would plague the consi as Dale Evonsion in the 35 with only two laps to go in the consi would make contact with the 1 of Sean Bodreau who was in the last qualified spot.  In retaliation Bodreau would wait for Evonsion after the checkered fell and put both himself and Evonsion in to the turn one wall.  Both drivers had major damage to their cars and would be disqualified from the 100 lap feature.  The only one who would benefit from this incident would be the 69 of Jimmy Dolan who now filled the last qualified spot.

Flagman John Spence Jr. brought rolling thunder to the green flag with rookie Luke Royea on the pole and Wayne Helliwell Jr. in the 66 on the outside of Royea.  Helliwell didn't waste any time jumping out front for the lead.  Helliwell would give himself a gapping lead over Royea who was being challenged by the 71 of Jim Boniface who started in the third spot.  Boniface would not settle for just taking over the second spot.  With only nineteen laps in the books Boniface would take down Helliwell for the lead.   The next twenty laps would be head to head racing with hard chargers like Peter Daniels in the RSD 76, Jimmy Kuhn Jr. in the 72 and the 43 of Kirk Alexander now racing into the top five spots.  New comer Louie Michelides in the 47 of Tyngsboro, MA would lead his first True Value Modified Racing Series event on lap forty after overpowering Boniface for the top spot.

The first caution of the night would fall on lap forty-five for the 70 of Andy Seuss and Bruce Batchelder in the 77 of Springfield, Vermont.  Seuss and Batchelder would make contact coming out of turn four sending them to the back of the pack.  With the field doubled up it would be Mechalides and Boniface for the green.  Michalides would continue to hold the spot with Boniface now being challenged by 2004 champion Kirk Alexander.  After five laps Alexander would get into the back of Boniface sending the 71 spinning into the bottom of turn three bringing out the second caution of the night.  Alexander would be penalized for his contact with Boniface and both would restart at the rear of the field.  Michalides would have a new challenger with Jimmy Kuhn Jr. in the 72 of Bridgewater, MA on his outside.  Ed Dauchenhusen in the 48 and the 76 of Peter Daniels would make up the second row for the restart.

Michalides would hold on to the lead to cash in on the Black Mountain and Painting half way bonus.  On lap sixty-four Kuhn would make his move and take the lead from Michalides.  Kirby "Mountain Man" Monteith would bring out the caution on lap sixty-five after contact sent him spinning in turn four.  Andy Seuss would be sent to the rear for his contact with Monteith.  Kuhn and Michalides would make up the front row for the restart but Kirk Alexander now making his second charge from the back of the pack was knocking on the back door.  Alexander would waste no time and would take over the lead on lap sixty-nine.

The 25 of Gary Casella would bring out the caution on lap eight-two as his car would slide into the front stretch wall.  Casella would retreat with damage to the pits as the field lined up for a single file restart with Alexander still out front.   With less than six laps remaining the final caution of the night would fly on lap ninety-four for Roger Raymond in the 62 and the 20 of Rusty Ball spinning in turn three.  Alexander continued to dominate the lead leaving Kuhn and Michelides to battle it out for the second and third spot.

Alexander would take the checkered for the third straight week in a row followed by Jimmy Kuhn Jr, Louie Michalides, Chris Wenzel in the 83 would finish fourth and the 06 of Les Hinckley would round out the top five.  Hinckley remains the points leader after four races but with three winds under Alexander's belt he has moved up to the second spot with only twenty-two points behind Hinckley.  The question is can Alexander and his team continue to dominate and make it four in a row?  The series will be back to Alexander's stomping grounds at Monadnock Speedway this Saturday, June 11, 2005 for 100 ground pounding laps of modified action.
