RE: TVMRS Seekonk results

Alexander Makes It Two In A Row

Seekonk, MA:  The True Value Modified Racing Series made its first 2005 appearance at Seekonk Speedway "The Cement Palace" on Saturday, May 28, 2005.  Thirty teams turned out to compete in the 100 lap event with only twenty four starting positions to fill.  Unfortunate luck during qualifying would force 2004 points champion Kirk Alexander and the 28 of Dwight Jarvis to take provisions to make the feature.   Sending home rookie Patrick Townsend in the Dan Avery owned #18 along with veteran driver Rusty Ball in the #20 of Keene, NH.  Four other drivers joined Townsend and Ball and would sit out the main event.

For the second week in a row young gun Andy Seuss out of Hampstead, NH in the #70 started on the pole.  On the outside of Seuss in the #9 was Dennis Albro of Putney, VT.  Rolling thunder shook the "Cement Palace" as a full field of 24 cars took the green from flagman John Spence Jr.   Seuss who had car trouble eariler in the night was showing no problems as he charged out to the front followed by Jimmy Kuhn Jr. hometown favorite in the 72 and Albro slipping to third.  An early caution would come out on lap four for the 22 of Dave Nichols spinning in turn 2.  Nichols would retreat to the pits for a quick tire change and return to take the green restart.  Seuss would continue to hold of Kuhn on the restart.  Lap eight would bring out caution number two with veteran driver and series founder Jack Bateman in the 17 spinning on the front stretch.  Seuss and Kuhn would contnue to make up the front row with the 66 of Wayne Helliwell Jr. of Pelham, NH waiting in the wings to make a challenge.  Four minor cautions would fall between lap 17 and lap 45 involving individually the 96 of Butch Perry, 72 of Jimmy Kuhn, 69 of Jimmy Dolan and the 83 of Chris Wenzel.  Seuss would continue to dominate the front of the pack holding off challenges from Kuhn, Helliwell and Louie Mechalides in the Marco Turcotte owned #47.  Seuss time was running short though with the 2004 True Value Modified Racing Series Champion Kirk Alexander in the Alexander Sheet Metal #43 knocking at the back door.  Alexander who had won the previous week at Monandock Speedway started dead last, a rule the series implemented that the previous feature winner must start the following event at the last starting position.

Seuss in the Jerry Morello owned #70 would hold off Alexander long enough to cash in the on the Black Mountain Painting 1/2 way bonus.  Alexander would make his move on lap 54 passing Seuss on the outside to take the lead.  Suess would fall in behind Alexander as Peter Daniels of Lebanon, NH would now have his Sabil & Sons #76 in the third position.   The caution would fly again on lap 62 for Ed Dachenhausen after contact made with the #1 of Sean Bodreau put Dachenhausen in the grass off turn four.  Bodreau would hold his eight position while Dachenhausen would retreat to the rear of the field.  The restart would be Alexander, Seuss, Daniels, Mechalides and the 06 of Les Hinckley from Windsor Locks, CT rounded out the top five.

Lap 72 would bring out the final caution for  the Jack's Competition #17 spinning in turns one and two.  Bateman who appeared to have help brining out the caution would end his night broke with 18 laps left on the board.  Alexander would remain dominate at the restart with Daniels taking over Seuss with less than 10 laps to go.  The checkers would fall giving Alexander his second win in 2005 followed by Peter Daniels, Andy Seuss, Dave Berghman and Louie Mechalides rounding out the top five.

With three races into the season Les Hinckley holds a 18 point lead over Ascutney, Vermont's Dwight Jarvis in the #28 holding down second spot in the 2005 points chase.

Along with the win Alexander would take home the Sunoco Hard Charger Award for gaining the most positions.  Alexander started in the 24 position passing 23 cars to be the Hard Charger of the night.  Louie Mechalides would take home the Sherwood Racing Wheel gift certificate fifth place award.   Gary Casella and Dwight Jarvis would cash in on the NorthEast Race Car & Parts contingency award.

The True Value Modified Racing Series makes their next stop on the schedule at Lee USA Speedway.  The Series will make their first appearance of the year at Lee on Friday, June 3rd.  Along with a 100 lap event the Series will help host 40 family members from the New Hampshire Make a Wish Foundation for a fun and exciting night of racing.  Bobbi Seuss, team manager for the True Value Modified Racing Series  #70 Modified driven by Andy Seuss is heading up organizing this event along with staff from TVMRS and Lee Speedway.  This will be the second year Bobbi has organized and hosted this event at Lee Speedway. Along with racing fans will be able to take hot air balloon rides with proceeds going to the New Hampshire Make a Wish Foundation.  A large turn out is expected to be on hand for an exciting night of racing.
