Businessman and Arena Racer Skipper Beck Killed in Plane Crash

Local Charlotte, North Carolina, businessman and racer Skipper Beck was killed Friday morning in an airplane crash at the Rock Hill York County Airport (SC). According to published reports, Beck was piloting his four-seat single-engine plane when he experienced problems shortly after takeoff. He attempted to return to the airport when the fatal crash occurred. Beck was the only one on the plane.
Besides owning multiple businesses, supporting the Charlotte Bobcats, playing in golf tournaments with celebs and attending multiple charitable events, Beck was also instrumental in supporting the Arena Racing USA Charlotte series. Beck owned multiple vehicles in the indoor scale-car series, and raced the #0 machine alongside his son and his business associates during the 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 racing seasons. Beck was 49 years old.
