Broken Shock Tower Limits Devin Jones Hickory Success
Devin Jones is Hindered by Bad Luck
in PASS event at Hickory Motor Speedway

Team Devin Jones Racing survived a rollercoaster weekend in the PASS South Super Late Model series race at Hickory Motor Speedway, overcoming a broken shock tower to finish Saturday night in the eighth spot.

After struggling on Friday's practice, the team, with the help of Chase Pistone Racing, finally nailed the set up during the last round of practice on Saturday where the CroftGateUSA/Children's Dream Racer/Poppa's Hot Dogs/Custom Race Canvas/Existance One Graphics/Dirty Boy's Car Detailing/Rims One No. 35 put down the third fastest time.

"In the first two Saturday practices we struggled, but in the third practice round we hit on something that worked," said Devin Jones. "I was very happy with the car going into qualifying. It was a competitive field of 33 cars and I was happy to qualify in the top 10."

After the redraw, the No. 35  started in second and showed that the car was clearly a top-five contender. After running a solid third for the first 35 laps, Jones got together with a car around lap 40 and bounced off the back straight away wall and broke the right front shock tower which crippled the car's set up and quickly cost Jones some spots.

"Once the shock tower broke I could feel the car hitting the track on entry and then it would get real tight in the center," said Jones. "It was a real challenge to drive the car with just one left side front shock.  I was trying to adjust my driving style to make the car work the best I could. At that point it was about salvaging a top 10 finish."

"Sometimes as a race team you have to deal with the reality that an eighth place finish is as best we could do under the circumstances," said Jones. "Overall, the race was great and everyone in the race raced hard, but no one tried to deliberatly dump anyone. It was good to see a high car count and shows that PASS is gaining momuntum as the undisputed primiere Super Late Model series in the country."

"I would like to thank all the the fans for coming out to support us," added Jones. "I really love Hickory and the families that show up for the autograph session. I would also like to thank the loyal team DJR supporters that were on top top of the hauler including Smitty and Kathy from Children's Deam Racer, Steve and Kassie from Poppa's Hot Dogs, Mike and his girlfriend from CroftGateUSA, Sean from Custom Race Canvas, and my grandparents, Todd and Tara from Laguna Beach, Calif. Look for some exciting things to come from Smitty, Sean and Kathy. The dynamic duo has now joined forces. Last, but certainly not least, team Pistone's Chase, Matt, Tyler, Stan and John for all the help. None of us could do any of this without the support of the teams we run with. All of us as racers should feel very thankful that we have the economic resources to do this. Remember it is a real gift to be able to race these cars."
