Chad McDaniel, 34, of Concordia, Kansas, succumbed to injuries suffered while racing during Friday night's midget race in Knoxville, Iowa. McDaniel was transported to Knoxville Hospital, then airlifted to Mercy Hospita lin Des Moines suffering from head and neck injuries. McDaniel is survived by his wife Trish and children Trevor and Taylor.
McDaniel was leading the SMRS Great Plains Midget Series standings at the time of the accident and had scored five top-10 finishes in six races so far this season.
