Just My Thoughts: May 2009

It's another month, and time for another "Just My Thoughts". There's lots to cover so here we go.

1. OPINIONS -There is a saying that goes "Opinions are like( a part of the body we will not mention)... everyone has one". It seems lately that some people feel the need to voice theirs a little too much, and in the wrong places. I won't waste your time getting into details, as those who are guilty know who I am talking about.

2. THE STATE OF THE TOUR -  If anyone has followed my postings, you have noticed that the NASCAR part of the Tour I usually leave out. My user name is "Whelen Modified Tour" no NASCAR for a reason. I have felt for years that the Tour would be better without NASCAR. But, the Tour Directors have only done what their bosses tell them to do, therefore I DO NOT BLAME THEM. I also can never look at the problem as being totally NASCAR's fault. When someone explains to me why you need an 18-wheeler to haul a car to race that pays less than $10,000 to win, you might get my attention when you complain. Do you really need chrome wheels to race? I guess chrome bumpers and nerf bars are NASCAR mandated now, right?
When you spend more on two engines than you would make to win all 14 races, I guess that was NASCAR telling you to do it. Everytime I see Wade Cole and Jake Marosz in the field for a race, I think of these other complaining car owners. These two men do it the way it should still be done. And what I love about them even more, THEY DO IT WITH A SMILE. When every team cuts back to a budget like Jake and Wade race on, then I will start to feel sorry for them. In the meantime, stock up on those Hutters and some Kleenex, and show off that new chromed out 18 wheeler. The one thing I do think was very wrong of NASCAR was moving the banquet and the way they handled it. While the intentions are to bring all the divisions together and make it a showcase, they are missing the big picture... IT IS A HUGE EXPENSE. Now maybe if they helped get the drivers to North Carolina it would be a bit different.

3. MAYBE IT'S JUST ME - But I am glad for all the controversy lately. Controversy creates press, and press generates interest. Many a celebrity have been quoted as saying "Good or bad, as long as they are talking about me they are making me famous". You can not go to a racing related website without reading about the Tour lately. And while it is mostly negative things, it is still attracting attention.

The main point I am hoping to get across this month is that while NASCAR is a big part of the problem, they can not be entirely blamed. Instead of us wasting time bashing them, we could use that time to promote the division. The pen is a powerful tool, the internet even stronger. These are "Just My Thoughts", take them for what you will.

Thanx for reading,

-WMT-

I totally agree - these tour guys spend way too much on engines and such, all you hear is whining from them. Everytime the tour rolls into stafford or thompson the weekly competitors get screwed - forced to pay an extra $25 a head to race for the same purse, while the tour guys get in for half price. I have not once been thanked for racing during one of their shows.
These guys need to go after the tracks not nascar - competitors need not to pay to race, they put on the show - don't they. Fans will not show up if there are no cars, stop racing for peanuts, stop spending tons of monies on foolish things, run heats, consi and use a handicap system.
Start your own tour if you don't like NASCAR or the TVRS - You had the chance when the SK's started by Arute, Yearington and Honeig when they offed you 3 nights a week and a huge point fund. - no traveling just affordable racing series - Just imagine what the racing would be like around here if you didn't start this mod tour instead - It would be like the NY state dirt racing tons of cars, people and good purses with a good point fund.
