Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
Maybe they should have left it alone (Chase & COT).
At least with the chase they can still get some sort of playoff/meaningful races.
By the old points, the championship was over 5 races ago. As it is Gordon would be up 430+ points and would just need to take the green in the last 3 to win. That isn't going to make me turn off the Raiders/Patriots/Giants game or any NFL game.
I like the COT and the idea of the car, what do you see as the downfall of the car?

the downfall of the car is that the racing has turned into the iroc series....... get rid of the wings and the splitter..... then maybe you have yourself a good running car.... now there are just tanks... as far as the chase.... GET RID of it..... as much as this hurts to us and most importantly SPD...... jeff gordon is a worthy champion under the classic points stats.... imagine if gordon had 2 bad races in the begining.... and all of a sudden today hes sitting 100 points behind in 6th in points.... YOU KNOW that the chase will be dropped..... imo it makes 36 races to make a season......... not 26 sorry....
By that thinking the Colorodo Rockies shouldn't have been in the World Series. All/most other sports have some sort of playoff. Cup racing was unique but it just doesn't work anymore. How many people you know sit down and watch a whole race these days compaired to 10 years ago? 15 years ago? How many times would people bother seeing Matt Kenseth win a championship with a few wins? We may understand what it took to do it but the average fan doesn't give a damn.
Sports radio had a big thing on playoff baseball in the past few weeks how playoff baseball can hold your interest, watching long drawn out at bats that would have you turning the channel during the regular season, I feel much the same was figured out by Nascar and it's playoff system.
It's hard to sell a TV package against the NFL if the races have no meaning other then maybe seeing someone new win a race.
The cars race just fine, maybe those guys driving them that are bitching need to sit down and understand they drive racecars for a living. If nascar changed to dumptrucks, they should jump at the chance to drive them since a million other people would trade places with them in an instant. Shut up and race quite basically.
Warren, you know I love racing but it is getting much harder for me to tune into the hms/nascar serise. You can say what you want, but we all know they have some type of advantage to be running this well. I am not saying nascar is letting them get away with something, but it could be money they are spending for testing or R&D but they have an edge the others don't. RCR, JGR, Roush all have very strong teams but 3 of the 4 hms teams are lightyears ahead and it is boring to see the same guys win. They just said on an ESPN interviw that Jeff & Jimmie have won 16 of the 36 races and that doesn't count Ky Busch & Casey's wins.
As for the COT, I used to like the ASA series but when they went to the GM spec motor the series died shortly there after. And when we helped the farmer run the Pro Cup series the Cup teams were starting to come in and we could never do the same thing now without mega bucks. The Cupcakes have runined any chance of the small team making it in the Nationwide series and it has all come down to a rich club (see NHIS sold).
If they make it a cookie cutter race series it will turn off a lot of supporters. I have been interested in the Chase because of our contest but not much more.
In the old days the Champion won on an overall best record. The Rockies still would have made in into the playoffs and World Series becuse when the 'regular season' was over they had a better record. That is the way baseball has worked for decades not just since a Roush car won with only 1 win. Kenseth was the most consistent over the season and deserved it. Dump the Chase and make it a 26 race season with a Champion and then a 10 race playoff with a second season Champion.
I am not a Jeff Gordon fan but he is getting screwed because he had the top performance over the 36 race season. This is not any other sports league where the teams go head to head on a 1 vs 1 basis, this is 1 against 42 every week therefore it can not be compaired to the other sports, well, maybe the Boston marathon, lol.
Roush picked up 15 in one season a few years back. I think part of Hendrick's dominance has to do with some other teams losing ground after being competitive, Roush mainly but RCR and DEI on a smaller scale also. Some other teams have just fell off the map, like Penske for the the most part.
Yeah and Gannisi and Evernham never have played up to their billing. I credit HMS for being on top of their game but it is no different than all the people rooting aginst the Patriots because they have been winning so much recently. I just think that the big time racing has gotten out of control like so many other things in life. Maybe I am just getting old, lol.
NASCAR NOT for sale: NASCAR says speculation that its family-owned company is for sale to the same European private equity firm that owns the Formula One group is "unequivocally false." A recent report in the racing business newsletter The Business of Motorsport, suggested that CVC Capital Partners, which manages funds internationally totaling more than $23.7 billion, was the "most-likely buyer" of NASCAR, Inc. from the France family. NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston, quoting a conversation he had on the matter with chairman Brian France, said France's reaction was an emphatic no. "[France said] It's a dead end story that has nothing remotely accurate," Poston said. "I spoke with Brian. NASCAR is not for sale." CVC representatives, reached in the company's New York office Friday, chose not to comment on the matter. CVC Capital Partners opened its first US office in Manhattan in March "to expand its American business," and already has purchased the luggage company Samsonite for $1.7 billion. CVC also recently bought the GP2 racing series for $300 million, and the report states that speculation has surfaced that they're also contemplating purchasing the sanctioning body that owns the Dakar Rally and Tour de France cycle race.(Marty Smith/ESPN.com)(11-18-2007)
