Nationwide is moving into the final stages of negotiations to title sponsor NASCARs No. 2 series, sources close to the talks say. A late comer to the bidding, Nationwide submitted an offer on Thursday, as did Subway, which had been considered a frontrunner since last December, when Anheuser-Busch announced that its Busch brand would not sponsor the series beyond 07. Nationwides talks with NASCAR continued to progress over the weekend and a contract proposal is believed to be in the legal pipeline at Nationwide. Officials at NASCAR say that it does not have a deal with a new sponsor, but sources say an agreement with Nationwide could be finalized in the coming days. Nationwide is the official insurance of SMI tracks.(SBD) (10-02-07)
