Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
The 8th Annual "King Of The Mountain" weekend is set for Sat/Sun., Sept. 29/30 at Mountain Speedway, located in the scenic Pocono foothills of Pennsylvania. The annual championship weekend, has become a popular date for many drivers and fans from across the northeast. The two day event will see extra distance, double points features for all divisions that competed on a regular basis at the one-third mile asphalt oval, located just minutes north of Hazleton, in the St. Johns valley. The winners will also take home a nice chunk of change, for their efforts. The headline division for the weekend, will be the mighty Modifieds set to do battle for 150 laps, in the 3rd and final leg of the "Big Dog" triple crown. Palmerton, Pennsylvania hotshoe, Earl Paules, wore the crown back in 2006, and with his win in the first leg on July 7th, looks to be an early favorite. Current point leader, Zane Zeiner will be looking to grab the crown away from Paules, and possibly take home the 2007 points title, as well. The Late Model division, which has had a strong showing of cars all season long, will be set to race for 75 circuits on the lightning fast asphalt. Street Stocks will compete for 50 laps, in what has become an ultra competitive division, at the popular racing venue. Consolation events for the Modifieds, Late Models and Street Stocks will take place on Sunday, September 30, as many tracks around the northeast are still completing their season, thus allowing drivers to race at their home track on Saturday, and still have the opportunity to make it into the KOTM feature events. Saturday, September 29, will see practice and heat race qualifying for all divisions, plus feature events for the Thrillers, 4 Cylinder Thrillers, and the popular American Three Quarter Midget Racing Association, which competed numerous times in 2007 at Mountain, in their blistering fast, winged racing machines. A pit party will round out the evening, on Saturday, and on-site camping will be allowed, for the action packed weekend of racing.
