GINGRAS TAKES PRO-FAB 100 - 3RD SÉRIE ACT CASTROL WIN FOR Immediate Release ACT-081707-1 VALLÉE-JONCTION, ON The largest crowd of the 2007 season saw veteran stock car racer Alexandre Gingras of Quebec, Qc recover from an early race spin to narrowly win Friday nights PRO-FAB 100 at the Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallée-Jonction, Qc. Series point leader, Patrick Laperle from St-Denis, Qc was second and Yvon Bedard from St-Nicolas, Qc was third in his best performance of the season. Rounding out the top five was Terrebonne, Qcs Sylvain Lacombe and Jacques Poulin of East Broughton, Qc. Rookie point leader, Eric St-Gelais from St-Nicolas, Qc led the 25 car starting field to the green in the tenth of 12 events in the Série ACT Castrol and second of the season at the fast 3/8ths mile slightly banked oval. The first year Late Model competitor led the first ten circuits which included the first of 11 cautions periods. Veteran ARCA driver and local favorite Super Mario Gosselin of LakeWales, FL took over on the 11th circuit and stayed out front until Laperle, who had started 13th, took over on lap 21. Laperle then battled with Karl Allard of St-Felicien, Qc for the next 50 laps. The pair swapped the lead back and forth multiple times as they circled the speedplant. The complexion of the PRO-FAB 100 changed on the 78th circuit as Laperle and Allard had contact then spun while running first and second as they worked their way around a lapped car. Bedard inherited the lead on the ensuing restart with Jean-François Déry, Marc Begin, Eric Lehoux and eventual winner, Gingras in hot pursuit. One lap later Begin and Lehoux got together which ended their night. Gingras, who had spun on lap 34 but recovered without losing a lap, moved forward two spots when the green flew again. He passed Bedard on the 81st circuit for the lead. He then found himself with a rearview mirror full of Laperle, who had worked his bay back through the pack after the 78th lap incident with Allard. Laperle, winner of the two previous Série ACT Castrol events (at the Circuit Ste-Croix on Aug 11 and Autodrome St-Eustache on July 28), was looking for an unprecedented third consecutive victory. A win would also help him recover some of the points he had lost to second-place point man Sylvain Lacombe during qualifying events for the PRO-FAB 100. Although he fell about 3/4ths of a car length short of the win Laperle did regain some of what he had lost. Jean-François Déry crossed the line in sixth, and Jonathan Desbiens, a 16 year-old rookie driver posted his best Série ACT Castrol career finish at seventh. Completing the top ten finishers were Dany Ouellet, Simon Roussin and Steven Boissonneault. The Série ACT Castrol is back in action on Sunday (August 26) at the Autodrome Montmagny Speedway (Montmagny, Qc) with the $4,000 to win Montmagny 250. Post time is 1:00 pm.
