Trombley Makes Fourth Different Winner; Kokosa Finally Breaks Through
May 12, 2007
West Lebanon, NY: The stars were all aligned, the moon was in the new phase, and Sagittarius was lined up with Venus; whatever the case, whatever excuse or explanation you want to come up with, great, the bottom line is, it's a win!
Doherty Brothers Construction, and Chatham Printing featured the Royals garage $3,000.00 to win 30 Lap Modified feature event, and it was a dog fight from lap one. At the point, Dave McFeeters and Tim Dwyer brought the field to the green, and by turn two it was the #1A of Dwyer taking control of the top spot. The caution flew on lap two for a few cars spinning in turn two; including the #45 of Wayne Jelley, and the #4 of Andy Bachetti. On the restart, Dwyer once again took the point, but a few rows back, it was "the New Guy" Jeff Trombley aboard his #21J launching out the 6th starting spot taking 2 positions on the first start, and on the lap 2 restart, bolted into the runner-up spot.
Trombley began to flex his muscle by lap 5, diving low on Dwyer down the front shoot. Tim Dwyer wasn't about to give up, especially with $3,000.00 on the line. The two raced side by side for the next 6 laps, wheel to wheel, door to door, with no one giving of getting an advantage. Finally, on lap 12, Trombley's persistence paid off, he got the bite he was looking for, and shot past Dwyer down the backstretch.
Back in the field, current point leader J.R. Heffner was methodically driving through the field gaining every spot he could from starting back in 16th. Following Heffner was the #115 of Kenny Tremont. He too, was picking through the field, along with the #98 of Eddie Marshall.
Back even deeper, Jelley and Bachetti were struggling to get through the field. But it didn't matter, because the #21J ATSTEO Pro Car was out front, and gone. Not even Eddie Marshall could catch Trombley after a late race charge. When the checkers finally waved, it was Trombley taking home the win, along with the Royals Garage $3,000.00.
Following Trombley across the line was Marshall. Tim Dwyer held on for 3rd, followed by Brian Berger, and Matt Quinn. Notables were: last week's winner Guy Sheldon 6th, J.R. Heffner 8th, Tremont 9th, and Bachetti 11th.
The 20 Lap Sportsman feature was up next, and there was plenty of reasons to celebrate. Not only was it Mother's Day weekend, but the Kokosa clan just added another member this past Monday, introducing Grace Frances to the family, but then, Dad had to go out and win the feature event, too. Now that's a good week.
At the drop of the green, it was Kokosa taking over the top spot from his second starting spot. After a couple cautions slowed the field; the worse being the #95D of D.J. Faulkner and the #117 of Jason Tompkins getting together on the backstretch, crashing into the inside wall, once the green flew, there was nothing holding back the #00 from taking the victory after struggling all year to this point. He wasn't taking any chances, as he stretched the lead out every chance he got to finally get the Kokosa Fuels #00 to victory lane.
Following Kokosa was Don Miller's #11; the #5 of Chris Tryon, 4th was Brian Sandstedt, while K.C. Goewey rounded out the top 5.
In addition to the open wheelers, the full fendered stars took to the Valley of Speed. And once again, it was another struggling driver that made it to victory lane. At the start, the field was too close to call, as Rick Dempsey took the point with Bob Duzlak and Ed Bachand in tow. A tense moment happened just 4 laps into the event as the #29 of Duzlak and the #165 of Bachand made heavy contact coming out of turn two, coming to rest against the outside wall just past the outside gate.
Only a few other cautions slowed the field, but it was enough for the #24 of Robbie Speed to get to the #35 of Dempsey by lap 9. They, too, went door to door for several laps, until Speed got the advantage coming out of turn 4 by lap 12. Once the Speed's Garage #24 had the point, everyone else was racing for 2nd. And a great battle for 2nd through 5th had the fans on their feat the entire 2nd half of the 20 lap feature.
As the checkers flew, it was Speed crossing the line first; Dempsey held on for 2nd, 3rd was Mike Middleton, followed by Jay Corbin, and Jason Casey.
In the Limited Pro Stocks, it was Chad Jeseo taking his first career win.
The PureStocks once again put on a great show as over 40 cars took to the high banks in three separate features. PS#1 was captured by Tom Harkins. PureStock #2 was won by Jay Casey, and PS# 3 saw Peter Wiegand his 3rd of the year.
Next Saturday its Little League night. With Waste management presenting the action with all classes scheduled to compete. In addition, there is also a 4, 6, and 8 cylinder Demo Derbies.
