POTVIN, LOWREY, THERRIEN BROTHERS TAKE TOP HONORS AT MERCHANTS BANK CAR SHOW

BARRE, VT Over 150 stock cars racing teams filled the pit area at Barres Thunder Road International Speedbowl for last weekends Merchants Bank 150 season opener. Many of those teams brought their cars to Barre Citys Main Street for the Merchants Bank Car Show on the morning of Saturday, May 5, showing off their beautiful brand new machines to race fans. The top three finishers in each division, as voted by race fans, were awarded trophies. Winners in each division were also given bonus money. Pete Potvin of Graniteville, VT won $100 and the best appearing car award in the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model division. Potvins A.J. Rander/Tenco New England #41 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was given top honors, narrowly edging Brian Hoars Goss Dodge #45 Dodge Charger and Jean-Paul Cyrs Sticks & Stuff/Ehlers RV #32 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. South Burlington, VT driver Dick Lowrey was presented $50 and the first-place trophy in the NAPA Tiger Sportsman division for his orange-and-black AIG Insurance #08 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Lowreys mount beat out a tie for second place between Pete Ainsworths Froggy 100.9/Petes Auto #80 Ford Taurus and Tom Therriens Therrien Motorsports #48 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Therriens younger brother, Bobby, of Hinesburg, VT won the Allen Lumber Street Stock portion of the Merchants Bank Car Show and a $25 check with his A.H. Fence/Pioneer Motors #1 Dodge Daytona. Justin Gordons Lazer Wash/Capitol Earth Moving #02 Ford Mustang and Josh Demers Demers Auto #15 Ford Mustang completed the top three. Dale Bickford of Lyndonville, VT began a solid weekend with a win in the Power Shift Junkyard Warrior contest and a bonus $25 check. Bickfords PDL Racing #59 Chevrolet Beretta also won the Warrior divisions feature event on Sunday. Finishing behind Bickford in the car show were Michael Gays Green Image Landscape #30 Mazda 323 and Frank Sanborns Waterbury Service Center #3 Ford Escort. Thunder Roads next event is the Casella Waste Management Mothers Day Extravaganza on Sunday, May 13. Qualifying action for a special 100-lap event for the NAPA Tiger Sportsman division begins at 2:00pm.
