POTTER MAKES BIG STATEMENT AT OXFORD PLAINS SPEEDWAY
For Immediate Release
ACT07-OPS042907
OXFORD, ME - Veteran stock car driver Randy Potter of made a statement to the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) on
Saturday: He is back, and he is a contender for the ACT Late Model Tour championship.
Following a long absence from the ACT Late Model Tour, Potter made a triumphant return to full-time competition at
Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday, earning a convincing victory in the New England Dodge Dealers 150 and $2,500
plus contingencies.
A multi-time champion at Riverside Speedway in his hometown of Groveton, NH, Potter's victory at OPS was the first
of his ACT career.  The veteran began competing with ACT in 1993 on a limited basis, and was recently a weekly
competitor at White Mountain Motorsports Park in No. Woodstock, NH.  His start in the New England Dodge Dealers
150 marked the end of a 12-year absence at the Maine oval.
Potter, who celebrated his 40th birthday on Thursday, knew that his win was rather unlikely.
"No way, I had no idea this was going to happen, said the elated driver in victory lane. We had problems with
the driveshaft in the qualifying heat race, but we got it fixed and everything just turned out good."
From his outside pole starting position, Potter drove his P&R Excavating Services/JML Grinding & Excavating
Chevrolet past Eric Williams on the opening lap, then outdistanced any would-be challengers including former ACT
champions Brian Hoar, Phil Scott, Jean-Paul Cyr, and Mike Rowe.
"There are so many good cars in this series, its great to race with everyone here," Potter said.  "I look up to
Jean-Paul Cyr, Mike Rowe, and Ben Rowe the most out there, and when I put Ben a lap down I radioed to my crew and
said I just passed Ben Rowe! This is a good day.
The opening round of the 2007 ACT Late Model Tour season was slowed by only two caution periods, running 150 laps
at a brisk pace of just over 54 minutes. Potters biggest scare came on lap 89 as Glen Luce spun directly in front
of him in lapped traffic. Luce was able to continue without needing a caution flag.
Cyr, the six-time and defending ACT champion made quick work of traffic in the early laps, making his way from the
19th starting position. The Milton, VT driver passed Phil Scott for second place on lap 103, but was unable to
reel Potter in during the closing laps.
"Second place at Oxford is great for us," said Cyr.  "This track doesn't suit my driving style very well, and it's
a struggle for us just to qualify sometimes.  I've wrecked so many cars here."
Hudson, NH youngster Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. - perhaps better known as "Joey Pole" - matched his career-best ACT
finish of third place.  Driving a brand-new Race Basics chassis built in Maine, the 17 year-old Alvirne (NH) High
School student patiently rode the outside lane to the front after starting in 24th place.  Doug Coombs of
Livermore, ME scored a career-best finish in fourth place, and was also the highest-finishing Oxford Plains
Speedway regular competitor.  Veteran driver David Avery of Lincoln, NH finished in fifth place.
A trio of champion racers, Cris Michaud, Mike Rowe, and Travis Adams, finshed in positions 6-8.  Michaud is a
three-time track champion at Vermont's Thunder Road Int'l Speedbowl, while Rowe is a seven-time OPS champion and
the 1994 ACT champion.  Adams is the defending OPS Late Model division champion.  Young guns "Rocket" Roger Brown
and Ryan Nolin rounded out the top ten.
Five-time ACT champion Brian Hoar of Williston, VT was running in second place when the rear end on his car broke
on lap 39.  Vermont State Senator Phil Scott, the 2002 ACT champion was running among the leaders when a suffered
a flat tire with less than 50 laps remaining.  Among the 52 drivers that failed to qualify for one of 33 starting
positions were 2006 ACT winners Brent Dragon and Donald Theetge.  Dragon also finished third in overall point
standings last season.
The ACT Late Model Tour's next event will be the Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road in Barre, VT on Sat./Sun., May
5/6.  Cars from the ACT Late Model Tour and Thunder Road's weekly divisions will be featured in a car show in
Downtown Barre on Saturday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.  Events will include a pit stop competition and parade to
the race track, followed by practice until 5:00 pm.  All qualifying and other race events will be held on Sunday.

Road website at www.thunderroadspeedbowl.com.
