ACT’S BUSHEY SCORES “250” TIRES

OXFORD, ME – American-Canadian Tour (ACT) competitor Craig Bushey of Cambridge, VT was gifted today (Wed, Nov 8), with eight Goodyear Eagle racing tires for use in the TD Banknorth 250 at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway on July 22, 2007.  Bushey’s name was one of three selected in a random drawing from among the 156 drivers filing an entry prior to November 1.  The 34th edition of the historic event will be the first for the ACT-type Late Model car.

“That’s really great news!” stated Bushey, a part-time competitor at Barre, Vermont’s Thunder Road, a high banked, quarter-mile oval.  The 26 year-old racer, a multi-time champion in ACT’s Tiger Sportsman ranks, purchased a Late Model at the end of the 2005 season.  Since then he’s tested the waters in the local track’s top division.

“I used to go to the `250’ as a kid, so I was excited when it was announced last summer that it was becoming a Late Model race,” Bushey commented.  “I filled out and submitted the entry knowing the reality of it was that I probably wouldn’t be able to go – there are a huge number of cars, there’s a lot of quality in the Late Models who’ll go to that race, plus you’ll have to buy a bunch of tires, - it was in all probably, realistically, beyond the scope of things for me.  I never figured that I’d win the tires!” he exclaimed.  “Now, I can’t say no (I won’t go).”

The other two competitors winning eight Goodyear Eagle slicks are Brockton Davis of Whitfield, NH and hometown driver, Chris Kennison from Oxford, ME.  Davis, 24, a weekly competitor at New Hampshire’s White Mountain Motorsports Park, finished 12th in the 2006 standings.  Kennison ran to fifth place in Oxford’s former Pro Stock division.

Bushey continued, “The `250’ should be a great experience.  I’ve never raced there although I did have the opportunity of practicing one of Joey Becker’s ACT Late Model’s at the track a couple of years ago.  With the format, where everyone draws for a heat starting spot, Lady Luck will certainly play a big part in whether you qualify or not.  Hopefully I’ll have as much luck in that draw as I did in the one for the tires!” he finished with a laugh.

The TD Banknorth 250 winner’s purse, which is approaching $50,000 according to the track’s website, is among the incentive behind the early influx of entries.  With eight months remaining before the drop of the event’s first green flag, the track has received 156 entries from all six New England states, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and three Canadian Provinces.  ACT’s representation on the list exceeds 55 competitors.

Last August, the Maine speedplant announced a major realignment of its racing divisions with the Late Model class becoming the headlining division at the 3/8ths mile slightly banked oval.  Not to miss out on an opportunity for big money, many of the track’s former Pro Stock competitors are included on the entry list, including several of the event’s past champions.  More than half of the Pro Stock drivers in the track’s top 20 have made the conversion to the Late Model car.
