RE: 2006 Thunder Road (VT) Speedbowl Milkbowl News

MILK BOWL STILL ON FOR WEEKEND
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS REVISED
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                        ACT-092906-1
WATERBURY, VT –   American-Canadian Tour (ACT) officials have announced that Thunder Road’s 43rd
annual Milk Bowl Last Chance “B” Feature, scheduled for Sunday (Oct 1), has been moved to Saturday
as part of Booth Bros/HP Hood Qualifying Day (Sept 30).
ACT president Tom Curley said, “We have a window of opportunity on Sunday to get the New England
Dodge Dealers Milk Bowl event concluded and we are optimistic that the entire 43rd annual program
can be run this Sunday.  Obviously showers are forecast for later in the day.  With a record entry
for the Milk Bowl coming from long distances, as well as fans from across the Northeast, Quebec and
Ontario, we want to do everything in our power to insure a complete program for all concerned.
With only two potential qualifying spots available in the Last Chance race, and a potential 30-car
field, we think it’s in the best financial interest of our competitors to complete all qualifying
on Saturday.”
Sunday’s traditional pre-race ceremonies will start at 1:00 pm.  They will be directly followed by
the first 50-lap segment of the New England Dodge Dealers 43rd annual Milk Bowl.
If inclement weather forces a reschedule, the event will be moved to Sunday, October 8.

RE: 2006 Thunder Road (VT) Speedbowl Milkbowl News and qualifying results

JOEY “POLE” CLAIMS MILK BOWL POLE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BARRE, VT— Seventeen year-old Joey “Pole” Polewarcyzk Jr. of Hudson, NH became the youngest driver in the 43 year history of the New England Dodge Dealers Milk Bowl to earn the pole starting position for tomorrow’s event.  For his effort, which established a new track record of 12.935 seconds, the youngster earned the $1,000 Booth Bros/HP Hood Pole Award.  He eclipsed the mark of 13.067 set last year by multi-time ACT Tour Champion, Jean-Paul Cyr. An event record 63 cars from across the Northeast U.S., Ontario and Quebec went after the pole as well as a starting spot in the $10,000 to win American-Canadian Tour (ACT) season finale at the Barre, VT speedplant..

Veteran racer Brent Dragon from Milton, VT, earned the outside pole and a $500 bonus with a lap time of 12.956 seconds around the high banked, quarter-mile oval. Georgia, VT’s Ryan Nolin also earned a guaranteed starting spot for the Milk Bowl with the 3rd fastest time (12.984).  In all, nine of the 63 competitors broke Cyr’s 2005 record.

“I remember coming to the Milk Bowl in 1997 when my dad raced. I don’t recall a lot, but I know that we traveled for what seemed like a long time to get here, so I knew it was something special. To be in this race for the second time in only two seasons as an ACT Tour driver, I can’t even describe how incrediable this is,” the second generation racer stated.  “Thunder Road is known across the country and the Milk Bowl is such a prestigious race.  It is really awesome to be sitting on the pole, especially with a veteran like Brent (Dragon) alongside.”

The balance of the 30 car starting grid was established through three 50-lap qualifiers and a Last Chance “B” Feature.  When it looked like nearly 40 cars might be eligible for the “B”, additional qualifying races were added to the program.

Sara Williams of Georgia, VT became the first woman to win a feature event in the entry-level Power Shift Warrior division which wrapped up its 2006 season on Saturday at Thunder Road. Neal Foster of Moretown was second and Dale Bickford of Lyndonville finished third.

“I wanted this win really bad,” an excited Williams said. “I knew that Neal (Foster) would have liked to win but I think I may have wanted it a bit more than him since it’s my first career victory.”

An 18th place finish was enough to earn Maynard Bartlett, Jr of Wolcott the Championship.  The second generation racer led the standings for a majority of the season. “It’s nice to win this championship,” he stated in the Winners Circle. “My whole family is here watching, it means a lot to be a title holder here at Thunder Road.”
