NASCAR Veteran Ken Schrader Enters October 11 Lowe's Late Model Race at The Dirt Track

CONCORD, N.C. -- NASCAR NEXTEL Cup veteran Ken Schrader will be among those chasing a possible $28,000 first prize during the Jani-King Southern Showdown late model race Wednesday night, Oct. 11, at The Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

A mainstay in NASCAR's premier division for more than 20 years, Schrader was a dominant force in Midwestern short-track racing prior to joining the stock car ranks. He won the USAC Silver Crown championship in 1982 and captured the USAC sprint car title in 1983. He also visited victory lane 21 times in USAC midget competition. Schrader spends what little free time he has from the NASCAR circuit competing in short-track races across the country. His schedule normally dictates he fly between race tracks, but only a short golf-cart ride is required for this dirt-track/superspeedway doubleheader as the Jani-King Southern Showdown is the first of four nights of racing, culminating with the Bank of America 500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

In addition to Schrader, the star-studded late model field is expected to include Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series point leader and World 100 winner Earl Pearson Jr., Colossal 100 winner Scott Bloomquist, Chris Madden, Donnie Moran, Tim McCreadie, Steve Francis, Mike Duvall, Mike Balzano and Don O'Neal.

Presented by Ferris Commercial Mowers, the Jani-King Southern Showdown features a full slate of racing for the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series. The event pays $10,000 to the winner, but a unique bonus format could result in the winner taking home $28,000.

The top three drivers in each of the six heat races advance directly to the main event and they will draw for starting positions. If one of those 18 drivers wins the 50-lap finale and submitted an official entry form prior to Sept. 15, he will receive the $10,000 first-place prize along with an amount equal to $1,000 multiplied by his starting position.

In addition to a 50-lap feature for the late model stock cars, two of the world's most popular Monster Trucks-Avenger and Equalizer-will square off in a no-holds-barred, winner-take-all freestyle competition.

With former World Freestyle Champion Jim Koehler behind of the wheel of Avenger and Mike Hawkins piloting Equalizer, the duo will tackle a radical freestyle course comprised of a full-sized school bus, numerous cars, vans and a recreational vehicle. Specially constructed wheelie ramps will also allow the drivers to launch their 13-foot-tall behemoths up to 30 feet in the air.
