BEEDE SPORTSMAN SERIES CHAMPION WITH RACE CANCELLATION

Plattsburgh, NY – Chuck Beede of Williamstown, VT will be crowned as the 2006 ACT Tiger Sportsman Series champion with the cancellation of the Fall Foliage 100 at Airborne Speedway, Plattsburgh, NY due to predictions of inclement weather on Sunday (Sept 24).  The 35th edition of the race will not be rescheduled as the track does not have a replacement date available for the Series competitors.

 “I feel like I didn’t earn it.  Even though Airborne isn’t one of my favorite tracks, I’d much rather have won or lost it on the track,” Beede stated when informed of the cancellation and the resulting Sportsman Series title.  “Winning the championship this way doesn’t means quite as much. I still had fun this year, the Sportsman car is great to drive and I love racing with everyone,” he finished.  Beede, 49, returned to the driver’s seat in 2005 after several years of retirement.  His previous accomplishments include the 1985 Thunder Road Tiger Sportsman Champion as well as the 1992-93-94 Thunder Road Late Model “King of the Road” title at the Barre, VT oval.

“I would have liked the opportunity to try for the title,” third place Jason Bonnett of St Albans, VT remarked.  “Even though I was 24 points behind (Beede), Airborne is my home track,” he stated hopefully before adding, “The points were pretty close behind be and I could have also ended up losing ground.”

Joey Laquerre, 63, of E Montpelier, VT finishes second in the standings, nine behind Beede (318-309).  Jason Bonnett from St Albans, VT (294), Barre, Vermont’s Nick Sweet (290) and Chris Gendreau of North Middlesex, VT (288) complete the top five finishers in the season long standings.

            Airborne will have a weekly event for Tiger Sportsmen cars on Sat, Sept 30 in conjunction with the 75-lap Modified Challenge which was also rained out on Sunday, September 24.  Additional information on the track’s schedule can be obtained through www.airbornespeedway.net.

            The ACT Late Model Tour’s New England Dodge Dealers Milk Bowl at Thunder Road will also take place on the weekend of Sept 30 and Oct 1.  Qualifying for the Late Models, NAPA Tiger Sportsman, Allen Lumber street Stocks and PowerShift Warriors as well as the Warrior feature will take place on Saturday.  The feature races, including the 43rd annual three-segment Milk Bowl will take place on Sunday.  Post time for both days is 1:00 pm.
