Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
... As pointed out in The Vault's ALMANAC (Plug...plug - 1980's/1985/Special Events), the original name of the tour was The Gatorade Circle of Champions. Need help with the # of events though....
Sid, we may have opened a can of worms now. According to my research , that is not the official name. I do remeber there being a "Circle of Champions Bonus". I beleive this was to entice certain drivers to show up at events.

As the resident stats geek - opening a can of worms is a good thing... I've never been one to say "The Vault is Record", I only record what the research shows me. In this case, it seems as though the Circle of Champs moniker comes from seeing only certain events from the 85 season and I'm guessing the few I've seen were part of that deal/promotion... I'll keep an eye on this thread and hopefully get a "definitive" answer...
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh! You got'er wrong it look's like Sid. And where the heck have you been??? Not enough love to share from you between here an JP.com? J/k lol.
Ok, started digging out the old programs and Speedway Scenesand I couldn't find much from '85, but a Jan. 24, 1986 Speedway Scene calls the '86 series the 'NASCAR Gatorade Modified Championship Series' and there were 26shows on tap for '86.
However, the April '86 Spring Sizzler program called the '85 series as the 'NASCAR Winston Racing Series Modified Point Tour' and as the 'NASCAR Winston Racing Series Modified Tour'. By the way, the '86 Spring Sizzler program has some very good Richie Evans memorial pages. I'll try to scan them in and post them if I can.
So, my final answer (this post anyway) is: 'NASCAR Winston Racing Series Modified Tour'
Well we are getting closer to the bottom of this one. The Tour name i will give you SPD. According to the reasearch I came across in the 1985 the Modified Tour was know as the NASCAR Winston Modified Tour. The number of races is still needed.

The modern-day Modified Tour was first held in 1985 named the NASCAR Winston Modified Tour.[3] It switched sponsorship to the Featherlite Trailers brand in 1994, and was renamed to the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series.

That' definitely something I looked up. I wasn't following racing during that time. Yankeeracer.com had the races for each of the years. I'm assuming (oh oh) that it's correct.
Well I am going to give it to you ,especially if you looked it up. This is what I found at Wikipedia and went by.
The modern-day Modified Tour was first held in 1985 with 29 races, named the NASCAR Winston Modified Tour.[3] It switched sponsorship to the Featherlite Trailers brand in 1994, and was renamed to the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series.
Two major changes to the Modified Tour came in 2005.
In 2005, Whelen Industries took over sponsorship of the series, which was renamed to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

I looked it up and turns out in 1985 there were 30 races scheduled, but the race a WSB was rained out so they canceled in because they thought that's what TE would do!
