Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
A lot of racers come to a point in their career where they say it is “make or break time.” Another popular phrase tells them to “go for broke.” The 2006 season is going to be a lot like that for 20-year-old Charles Lewandoski. However, the youngster isn’t hinging all of his future plans on just this one year. Instead, he is going to hope to make it a “breakout” season instead.
“It’s not really ‘make or break’ or ‘go for broke;’ I wouldn’t use either of those terminologies,” said Lewandoski. “But it’s definitely a ‘lay it all on the table’ and run good or back down and head to the house.”
Lewandoski plans to run as much as possible in a full-bodied car in 2006. His main focus will be the NASCAR Busch East Series (formerly the NASCAR Busch North Series), which will kick off its racing season at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on June 10th.
“As of right now we are going to do the first two Busch East races. Those are going to be held at Greenville-Pickens and Stafford (Speedway, CT). After the first two we are going to see where we are at. Doing six or seven races is our main focus but we are going to see how we are doing. If we are running really well after the first two races we might try to do the others.”
While his full racing schedule is not completely set, Lewandoski is prepared to race as much as possible, while getting all the experience and exposure that he possibly can.
“My biggest goal is to race as much as I can in full-bodied stock cars,” added Lewandoski. “I would like to try and do something with Late Models and Super Late Models both up north and down south and try to put some stuff together.
“I want to race more. Just try to race as much as I can, experience new racetracks, work with new people and new teams.”
The 2005 season was a learning experience for Lewandoski. He ran 10 races in the Busch East Series and, while doing that, he uprooted himself from his native state of Connecticut and moved south to the home base of stock car racing, North Carolina.
“I learned a lot from last year. We moved down here, we had new people involved with the team and we had a crew of about seven guys that went with us. The combination was new to everybody, being down here, traveling and everything was new, new, new.”
While last year was a year full of new locals and new experiences for the 20-year-old, this year is also full of many new opportunities. The first race of the year will also be the first time that the Busch East Series has raced in the southern states, and Charles will also be taking a new racecar to that race.
“We are going in with a new car. It’s got the latest and greatest,”
said Lewandoski. “That thing is bad to the bone. We would like to win a race but definitely just run top ten or top five.”
Charles Lewandoski takes to the track next at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, Saturday June 10th, with the Busch East Series.
Lewandoski is interested in any driving and/or marketing opportunities in racing, especially the NASCAR Busch East Series, USAR Pro Cup Series and ARCA RE/MAX Series.
