“Jarvis Notches True Value Modified Series Win At Monadnock”

Reminding fans of what he said on opening night in April, Ascutney, VT, racing veteran Dwight Jarvis told the large crowd Saturday night “I love this place” after he drove his Crown Point Builders/Black Mountain Painting/Osgood Welding sponsored modified to victory at the Monadnock Speedway, his first of the 2006 season. Jarvis has had a 33 year love affair with the high banked ¼ mile NH oval with much of his success throughout his career coming at the speedway affectionately known in the racing industry as “The Dog”

At the drop of the green flag, 36 year veteran Jack Bateman, Canaan, NH, jumped into the lead and led the first 31 laps until yielding the top spot to  Jimmy Kuhn Jr. The W. Bridgewater, MA, driver was the Black Mountain Painting ½ way award recipient leading the 50th go around and holding the top spot until the 70th circuit when Jarvis, who raced side by side with Kuhn for several laps, bolted into the lead to go on to record the win.

Jarvis became the focus of fans attention as he made another one of his patented late race charges when “it was time to go” said the veteran.  That driving style, on the outside lap after lap, was a crowd pleaser with fans voicing their approval with a loud cheer as the winner was interviewed in victory lane.  Jarvis, recipient this past winter of the first ever 7-11 Award for professionalism on and off the speedway, heads to the next stop on the tour, the Seekonk Speedway, atop the point standings.

Kuhn was strong all night as he captured his qualifying heat race and appeared to be enroute to his first TVMRS victory. He settled for the runner-up spot while Monadnock veteran Rob Goodenough, W. Swanzey, NH, finished in a solid third.  “Phil Goodell and my crew gave me a good car tonight.” said Goodenough in victory lane. After overcoming engine woes, the 01 team had a respectable and popular third place finish.  Bateman, who was a strong runner all night, was fourth, with Andy Seuss, Hampstead, NH, fifth. Sixth through tenth were, Ed Dachenhausen, David Roys, Jon McKennedy, Kirk Alexander and Kevin Konopka.

The race was dramatically slowed by 12 cautions with many of those coming between laps 30 and 35 forcing tour officials to restart the race in single file formation. Qualifying heats were nabbed by Goodenough, Bateman and Kuhn while McKennedy notched the 15 lap last chance consi run.

Next stop on the TVMRS tour will be the Seekonk Spedway, Seekonk MA, on Saturday night June 3rd.  Seekonk locals Vinnie Annarumo and Kenny Spencer are expected to compete in the tours first appearance of the season at the Route 6 oval. Race time is 6pm.
