“Lee True Value Modified Racing Series Event Rain Shortened”

With 35 modified race cars signed in for Sundays 100 lap race at Lee USA Speedway, Lee, N.H., mother nature for the second consecutive race date, went wheel to wheel with tour operatives and finally won out when she made an outside move from the west and deposited a heavy downpour that preceded severe thunderstorms and forced a cancellation of the racing program at the N.H seacoast facility on Sunday afternoon. As a result, Lee manager Pete Watson, ACT director Tom Curley, and TVMRS founder and president Jack Bateman, declared that Sunday Sept 17 would be the makeup date for the first ever twin bill featuring the two sanctions. The date selected was the only day that would work for all three race organizers.

The modified side of the ledger found new faces in the pit area as Kevin Konopka, Meriden, Ct., entered a TVMRS event for the first time this season as did Quogue L.I, N.Y racer Mike Andrews Jr. Vinnie Annarumo, Swansea, Ma., Seekonk Speedway pro stock champion, entered his first race of the season with a brand new SPAFCO modified sponsored by his familiar Francis Farms Clambakes colors.  Annarumo was a modified regular in the early 80’s at Stafford Springs, Ct.  He’ll be joined by another veteran Seekonk pro stock racer jumping to the modified wars, Kenny Spencer, Taunton, Ma. “We are here to have fun and learn” said Spencer prior to practice Sunday. Spencer got his modified foot in the door last September at Seekonk looking right at home and running well in his first effort.

Sunday’s qualifying races were run during on again off again showers with several mishaps taking place and several race cars on the back of a tow truck as a result.  Those that have made the starting lineup after the top six were taken from the first two heat races were, Richard Savary, Tony Ricci, Johnny Bush, Jimmy Dolan, Sean Bodreau and Les Hinckley from the first heat, with Kirk Alexander, Jimmy Kuhn, Jack Bateman, Rusty Ball, Andy Seuss and Dwight Jarvis the top 6 in the second qualifier.

The TVMRS will return to the Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, N.H, for the upcoming Memorial Day holiday weekend with another 100 lap green flag race on tap Saturday May 27.   Races start at 6pm

Lee Reschedules Rain Date For ACT/TVMRS Twin Bill”

Lee USA Speedway, Lee, N.H., announced today the Sunday May 21 racing program featuring twin 100 lap races for the American-Canadian Tour Late Models and True Value Modified Racing Series has been rescheduled to Tuesday night July 18 at the N.H. seacoast speedway. The announced rain date was to be Sunday Sept 17 however that has changed for several reasons.

According to track manager Peter Watson, “after dealing with the rainout and putting things in perspective, we realized that it was not in the best interest of our fans, competitors, or our best interest to run a show when the premier circuit in all of stock car racing is running the big track in Loudon.” Track officials feel that when you factor in the heavy traffic that travels the interstates in N.H on race dates and that much of the following for both tours will be coming from Vermont and Western N.H., Watson felt “It was the right thing to do.” He added, “initially it appeared that the September date was all that would work for ACT and the True Value Modified tour to come back here, we wanted this show, we all promoted it and that is what the fans came here expecting to see so we went with the date that worked for the tours and the speedway.” He went on, “It was not an easy one to get done as both tours are booked solid. We have dates with the modifieds coming back that would not work for ACT or the ACT dates would not work the other way.” Watson went on to say, “come Monday morning we realized we needed to do something else, I met with track owners Red and Judy MacDonald, we looked at options, we contacted Mr. Curley and Mr. Bateman, and with weekends booked the way they are, we proposed a Tuesday night show in July to them and everyone agreed on it.”.

Long time race fans will be hard pressed to recall the last time a seacoast speedway has run on a Tuesday night. The rain date for the twin 100 lap races will now be Tuesday July 18 with gates to the Rte 125 oval opening at 2pm. Practice will start at 4pm and the first qualifying race will get the green flag at 6pm. Fans are reminded to hang on to tickets and or wrist bands from May 21 for admittance into the speedway
