Now with all that out of the way.....Let's make some laps!
here is the lastest take on ramblings for the week of march 8th 2006.........
is the NASCAR HOF where its suppose to be ?
the news leaked out monday that the NASCAR HOF is going to be in fact located in charlolte NC, which to me does not make sence what so ever, granted we have 80% of the 3 top divsions of the sport in the concord area, BUT does this area deserve this location??? if memory serves me right, the 1st ever nascar meeting was held in DAYTONA in 1947, you do not see the basketball HOF which is in my local area of springfield ma in buffalo ny? the sport was accually invented in springfield, or the baseball hall of fame located in thompson ct either........point is, the HOF should be where the sport was either founded, or invented,
but theres others that disagree............ for instance
the 1st race in nascar history was at the defunct charlotte fairgrounds, dean roper won that one, its up to you to decide on that one, where would be the proper place that the HOF would have been??? dont say mexico spd or i will send a flaming pile of poop on your porch :)
in other issues that inclues a big rumor brain aynerism was the pepsi 400 rumored to be held nov 2007, THIS IS TOTALLY FALSE, this race will in fact stay in the july slot for sometime to come
there has been 2 more race tracks on the cup schedule to be repaved....... bristol and darlington is to be repaved after may 2007, which is a scary thought for lowes, because that track is going to be battling with atlanta as being the fastest non plate track on the schedule, the curent list is as follows
talladega
lowes<regrading the banks too>
las vegas <pulling a rumored 21 deg banks ro add more side by side racing>
bristol <still to be cement but it should be better than what it was in 1992 when they put there current surface down>
darlington <layout to be unchanged, i do agree with the surface being old and worn and had to be redone,> just your typical cheese grader NC/SC gravel
A pat on the back this week goes to ryan newman for a non racing incident, heres the story from JAYSKI.COM
Newman puts out fire: #12-Ryan Newman and a Leatherman helped control a fire that threatened to engulf Sledgehammer Charlie's in downtown Lenoir [NC] Monday afternoon. Chris Barlowe and Jeffrey Rocks with Gateway Grading were having lunch with NASCAR driver Ryan Newman at Sledgehammer Charlie's discussing a business venture, according to Barlowe and Rocks, when the fire started. “Our lunch had just arrived when the restaurant filled with smoke,” Rocks said. Barlowe, who used to work with Lenoir Fire Department, asked where the roof access was, and Barlowe, Rocks and Newman climbed up to the roof. Once on top, they saw a vent system cover. If not for Newman's Leatherman, a knife-like tool, the men still may have been trying to get to the fire when Lenoir arrived. However, Barlowe said Newman used the Leatherman to remove the bolts to the ventilator cover while he used a fire extinguisher on the flames. “Once they got the top off, Ryan and Chris expended every fire extinguisher (they had),” Rocks said. “Instead of running away (Newman) ran to the fire." “Ryan saved the day,” Barlowe said. Fire Chief Ken Briscoe said he saw Barlowe on the roof, but he didn't know a NASCAR driver was working reserves for the department as well. “When (Barlowe) came down he was telling me he and this other guy took fire extinguishers to knock this fire down,” Briscoe said. “I thanked him and said ya'll did a great job.” Then Barlowe told the chief he may want to thank the man that helped him. “I walked over there and said, ‘Gosh! Ryan Newman,'” Briscoe said. “He said, ‘Yeah.'” Briscoe said he thanked Newman again for helping knock the fire down until Lenoir's firefighters arrived on the scene, and Newman told him not to worry about it. “He was very personable and polite,” Briscoe said. “He did a great job up there knocking the fire down.” By Monday evening, the entire report wasn't complete, but Briscoe estimated around $12,000 to 15,000 in damages. A Sledgehammer Charlie's employee said the restaurant may be open this weekend, but more than likely will be closed until next week.(News-Topic)(3-7-2006) GOOD JOB RYAN !!!!!!!!
in northeast/ local news. nazerth speedway to be sold for 18 million and probally going to be a shopping mall or residental housing, shame for this track because it never got the fair shake thanks to the cookie cutter race tracks in the 90s
saving the best for last this week, what do you think of the brickyards rumored sale in progress..... isc and disney rumored to be in on the bidding, this comes after the biggest blunder in racing history, the us grand prix, there a tire problem led to a 6 car starting grid and angry booing fans, that is about it for this weeks ramblings, see ya next time :) till then
i dont think cali sold out, LV is barely selling out, i think the gold rush is over....... i would like to see a race over in the wash state area..... but to do that theres a date that has to be forfetted..... and its going ot be a race that has been on the schedule for 30 years...... and not 5-10 years..... cali should go back to 1 race, darlington should go back to 2 races.... the 2 road courses are ok, even though the racing is boring, because the pre nextel days.... there was 2 road courses a year, riverside and the glen which made 3 from 86 to 88......
Sorry Scott, I work at IMS and the Goerge family has informed me and all there other personel that the selling of the IMS "brickyard" is false! just thought I'd let you know
