this one is where your looking down the backstright, notice the birms on the righthand side?
this view is the one i took to show you how overgrown this place is, you really have to look at most of the idems around the speedway, this view represents a view on the frontstrech and looking toward the backstright, near the SF line was
this pic is a view from a tire wall on the backstright
closer look
this is my dog at speed walking around the former speedway
clay sample, they used MA clay which is not as good as NY or NJ clay so you would never see dirt mods ever racing on this, in varoius places, on the top 15 feet of the track had 8 inches of clay, meanwhile the bottom part only had 4 inches so my results are that the track was not groomed evenly after its last race
this is a phototophers stand possabilly
this is a wider view of turn 2 heading down the backstright
this L shaped wooden peice looks liek it it came from a consessions stand or a flaggers stand?
a close up view of me holding a can that i found in the pit area off turn 3......
oil drums, either used for racing or was dumped there along time ago
another angle of these oil drums
a picture of what the exit of the pits to the track looked like
this is a road side picture of what it looks like if your ever on millers falls road in turners falls mass... millers falls a is village within turners falls, to find this road sign go north on rt 63 and head up to millers falls road, 2 miles towards the airport, the track is just behind this sign in the trees
closer look of the L shaped wooden peice
wooden guardrail piller, one of many that still remains on the frontstright
the pictures i took was before the big snowstrom about 2 weeks ago, once it clears out nice in the spring i will take another trip up here and possabilly rent a metal detector<muhahahahaha> and see if i can dig somethings out of the ground...... hope you enjoy looking at history :)
I worked at that Stardust Inn strip joint/bar while in high school in the early 1960's. I cleaned up after hours. While there, I met the Inkspots, the then reknowned early sex change tranny Christine Jorgensen, and Lloyd Bridges of Sea Hunt TV, who the owner of the bar had dived with on the show. My cousin drove at the race track in the mid 1950's. Man, that page brought back memories. RWH Fenton MI
Scott, Hello, as one who used to race [old Daredevil Davision], Pines/Hudson, I found your pictures....very interesting....also somewhat sad ans eerrie ! What a pity, that SOOOO many of these places of total entertainment, are now gone !!!! Thanks for your time and effort, Dennis Hall p.s. I was born and raised [a house painter], in Somerville, Ma. And, the racing "efford" was during the middle-sixties.
as of a few weeks ago while i was in the neighborhood i took a peak there again, that land is still open, no building has taken place at all....... its been 2 years since they partically leveled the track, although the track layout is still there, they took out some of the clay if not all, but the overgrowth/weeds are starting to claim the place once again..............
